help..nicked his nail too close? 1 Month ago  
Hi, I joined because i need some help..today i was trying to clip my hedgehogs nails like usual and i went to cut one on his back foot and he moved and i nicked it too close and he bled a little bit..it wasnt a lot but i am worried..is there anything i should do for him? i have run his toe under some cold water and rinsed it for now but i wanted to get advice before doing anything else thank you...

It should be fine, I am sure we have all done the exact same thing. If it continues to bleed, you can dip it in a bit of flour or cornstarch. Keep the foot as clean as possible for a couple of days, and watch for redness or swelling that could mean possible infection, but otherwise you should be fine. Welcome to hedgehogworld!

Yes, that has happened to me, too, with both hedgies They like to move when I am trying to trim their nails.

I always use a q-tip dipped in hydrogen peroxide and I wipe the nail and then dip in corn starch to stop the bleeding.

Ouch, I did this two nights ago to my little guy Little wriggly worm while trying to trim his nails! I use the cornstarch too if it doesn't stop bleeding in a minute.

Your little one should be ok and welcome to the forum!
