the bad part is that the play pen you linked to is on the short side for a hedgie.. 12" would be the ideal height for a hedgie pen!

Many times a hedgehog will go hide if it hears someone else in the room. Don't be afraid to wake your hedgehog up during the day or evening to play. Get them used to being woken up at different times, I believe this helps with creating a happy healthy friendly hedgehog.

Felicity, Sally Snert & I are not on any kind of schedule at all. My summer teaching schedule is strange, so I mess around with them whenever I feel like it. If I let Felicity wake up & eat first, she's a good sport. Sally Snert I can pick up immediately without a puff/huff!

Just teasing. I think that the playpen would be great. Although it sounds like JoGirl has a nifty hedgie playpen in the works.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions.
Here's the update.
Peyton will let me hold her now. She's become much more used to me so she doesn't ball up as much. She still does and still huffs, but it's not as much as it used to be, and now I can see her cute little face more. She's an explorer and a cuddler, so she will smell everything and walk everywhere but she also loves to get curled up in her little ball and sleep beside me.
As for the peeing situation ... she was on the couch with me yesterday and she peed again! This is the second time now that she's done that. I quickly put her in her cage. How do I stop this? I have a brand new couch. I put lots of blankets over it, but I don't want it to seep through or something next time.
I do the bath thing often and she loves the water and is completely relaxed, and she definitely relieves herself in it. So maybe should I put her in the bath every time I take her out of her cage? ... or maybe is there a spray or something I can put on my couch to make her not want to go there. (I know they have them for dogs) ...
Thanks

There is really no way to get them to not go when they need to go. As they get older, they gain more bowl control, cause when they are babies, if they need to go, out it comes (and all over my favorite pillow last night XD). You dint want to put them in the bath every night, cause that will severly dry out their skin. What I do with my older hedgie is wake her up, play with her for a few, put here back in the cage do do her business, grab a munch and a drink, than take her out again. That seems to work for us. Also, if they learn that they get to go back in their cage if they relieve themselves, they will do it more frequently. Un the beginning, hedgies much prefer to be hiding, so will pick up bad habits to get themselves back there is you "reward" them.

I tell people to give their hedgehogs about 2 weeks to really settle in. The more play time they get in that period, the better.
I too am more comfortable and more likely to be active after I pee. Before I pee, I'm generally grumpy and sitting with my legs crossed. Just thought I'd share.....

I have seen lots of pieces of plastic pipe in pics with hedgies. (nice tongue-twister there). I'm def going to purchase some to try and make a hedgehog maze with, once my broken ankle has healed!
I'd love to see video of your hog doing his laps!
