How active should she be? 5 Months ago
Hi everyone,

I just picked up my hedgehog Matilda on Thursday and I’m kind of worried about how active she is... or how active she isn’t to be more specific. This morning I got up around 7 and she was asleep in her hut, when I came home from work at 5 it didn’t look like she’d moved (no food gone, everything in the same place) and right now she is sleeping on my lap in her hedgebag and doesn’t seem to have any intention of coming out. Should I be concerned about this??

Thanks!!

Sounds just like my little guy Being nocturnal, they probably won't get up to too much during the day. I hardly think Pyjama gets up during the day at all.

Just make sure she has a nice big wheel to run on during the wee hours

Well that's good news! But when am I supposed to do all this nail clipping and bathing and bonding (she's pretty huffy) if she sleeps from 7am-11pm?

They are nocturnal and she will be most active at night, but you can get her up for awhile during the day-just not all day. Some will be grumpy when you first wake them up though

I knew they are nocturnal, but I was expecting her to starting getting up around 8 or 9. It's all ok though... I was concerned that she wasn't eating or drinking very much and that's why she wasn't getting up, but I was up late watching the olympics last night and saw her doing both. I also had my first poopy boots experience, haha.

I'm glad she's acting normal!! Thank you!

A typical night, I wake Pyjama up around 9pm. I let him eat/drink if he wants and then he will usually curl up and sleep maybe an hour more on my lap in his sleeping bag. Then around 10pm he starts to get a little active, will crawl around and explore Jonathan and I. Maybe find somewhere to plop down. His latest thing, he will plop down right under my chin looking up at my face, so I can feel his breath on my face. Toooooo cute! If he starts getting a little too active, I pop him back in his cage and he will usually poop or pee, then I take him out again. Some nights when I have been up extra late, like 1am, he is sooooo active. He really prefers the small hours for running!

There are nights when I sometimes take him out earlier or later, and I bribe him with mealworms hehe. Then he is never grumpy! They are happy/crazy pills for Pyjama
