what do you all think of this brand. Also is it bad to use wet cat food maybe once a week. He prefers the wet cat food but so do cats and dogs (wet dog food of course) just wanted to see what you all thought about the food's im using.

I don't think there have been any real problems with Spike's Delight, but I'm not completely sure. I think mostly people avoid using hh foods. Most people feed a mix of cat foods, which can be made at home or bought from a breeder. I feed a mix of Purine One Healthful Mix, Fancy Feast Dry, and Wellness Adult, mixed with a bit of Nelson's breeder's mix which i believe has Chicken Soup, Royal Canin, Purina, Fancy Feast Dry, and several others. Typically any mix of two or more foods with fat around 10-15% and protein around 30%, with at least one medium/high quality food I think are acceptable. But I'm sure some hedgies do fine on a diet of only one food. It depends on your hedgie's tastes and what you are willing to do/can afford. With only one hedgie, a mix of a whole lot of foods seems more than it's worth unless you're ordering the mix from a breeder.

I haven't taken a look at his food recently, but I know I had no real issues with it personally when I looked at it a few years ago. If nothing else I'm sure it would be okay as part of a food mix.

All I know is that my hedgie Hoggle loves Spike's Delite. We had to switch him to the lite one, which he was ticked about at first, but he seems to be totally fine with it now.

Nothing really wrong with Spike's Delight. But if you look at the ingredients list and nutrition info, it's basically the same stuff as a mid-grade cat food.

Here's the first four ingredients and guaranteed analysis of the regular Spike's Delight:

Chicken meal, extruded yellow corn, soybean meal, extruded brown rice
32% protein, 12% fat, 6% fiber

Now compare that to, for example, Natural Life Feline Adult:

Chicken meal, ground whole wheat, ground yellow corn, corn gluten meal
30% protein, 12% fat, 3% fiber

Fairly comparable overall, I'd say.

But there's one big difference here. Including shipping, that 5lb bag of Spike's Delight will run you $25, or $5 per pound. The Natural Life, on the other hand, you can walk into your nearest Wal-Mart and buy a 4lb bag for $7.48, or just $1.87 a pound!

Like I said, nothing really wrong with Spike's Delight that I'm aware of. It's just that you're paying double the price for what's really just a mid-grade cat food.

You can lead a hedgehog to prune juice, but you can’t make him drink it.
Nor would you want to.

I have Spike's Delite Premium in my mix that includes CSCLS lite and Wellness Indoor Cat. One of the pluses of Spike's pellets is its hedgehog-friendly shape and size.

Re:Spikes Delight 11 Months, 1 Week ago
I have used the Spike's foods for some time now and I have been overall very happy with it. I buy it in large quanitity so it's a bit cheaper that way and I keep it sealed in my freezer so it stays fresh.
I have to admit I am not a fan of a lot of other packaged HH foods, either.
The owner of Pet Pro (Jim) will make you your own recipe of food too if you ever need him to (I haven't done this before so I don't know what it would cost) but it's something pretty neat I think anyways.
I have been told good things about the Brisky's line of HH food too but I haven't tried that yet?

I checked out the Brisky's line of food... WAY to high in fat AND protein! Fat is at 22% and protein is 38%. Protein should only be around 30% and fat around 15%. Not to mention the ingredients SUCK. First thing is a poultry meal, then poultry FAT, dried whole egg, then brewer's rice, corn, dried beet pulp, chicken liver digest(no clue.. but doesn't NOT sound very good!)

And that was just the one I could get to load the ingredient's and percentages list! The other would not even load!
