hi im just starting with these, i wont be getting them for a good while yet, but im making sure i have all that is needed for them prior.
ive just purchased 2 vivariums, they are 3 foot in length by 1.5 foot width.
ive also got each viv a large silent spinner 12 inch wheel.
each viv has a hog bag for sleeping.
ive drilled holes in each viv to hang a water bottle as having water in a dish is unsanitary.
becuase its very exspensive to heat the house to a temp hogs need, ive also bought a small 7 watt heat mat for each viv.
the heat mat is about the size of each adult hog, and the mats reach a maximum 25 c.
this is why i opted for a viv as it will help keep the heat in, wheras a wire cage would not.
i realise a heat mat may not have much of a effect on air temp, but it is at a suitable temp for the mat to be placed party under where the hogs sleep, obviously not completley as i dont want burnt hogs!
the house stays at around 18c, so i figured this is not warm enough for them, hence the heat mats.
any thoughts on my setup would be appreciated, especialy regarding the heat mats, as i would hate to get this wrong as end up with hibernation problems
ta, rob
