Dont no whats best for her. 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Hello again, I recentley posted about my hedge guinness, the self biteing issue. It seems she is a very anxious hedgehog and would be prefured to be left alone and it stresses her out if shes being held and therefore can induce this biteing problem. The thing is i like to get her out for 1-2 hours a day to give her a bit of freedom ect but she just seems to wanna be left alone. even if i make her a play pen she runs around a few times then trys to escape wherever she can or she will just sit in one spot and just stay there. if i try and coax her out to have a run she get stressed and starts to bite her leg. i dont no whats best do i not get her out as much and leave her be but i dont see this as healthy for her but i dont want her getting stressed. shes a very timmid hog and hypoactive. she dont seem to be getting used to me or anything without her feeling unsafe or stressed...x

ive never had a hedgie who does this but i would start all over with her again.
Putting one of your tshirts as her bedding so she gets use to your smell, let her smell your hand and then start offering her treats by hand.
once she seems happy with all that then i would try picking her up again

My suggestion would be to have her on your lap in a blankie and then have a second blankie and cover her up; she can get used to your smell but feel safer since she is "under cover" so to speak. And when she is on your lap, you can speak quietly to her and maybe give her treats--just sneak them under the covering blankie and let her eat under there. Repeat this daily for a few months at least. Maybe only have her out on your lap for 30 minutes max and maybe even build up to this.

Good luck.

It's work for me when I trained KopKap. This is the first method I did.

You have "Kane Guarantee" LOL!

I did this with Mr. Pickles at first and sometimes still do when he is in a "huff mode" type of mood. It seems to work great.

Kane, we are on the same page with this

If she starts running about she may feel like exploring, which you could allow her to do in a safe area of the floor, or she might need to go to the bathroom and doesn't want to go on you .

Well i had a problem with one of my hedgehogs and i helped him by teaching him to not bite him self. Every time he bite himself i stopped him gently and in one month suddenly he stop.
