Bella's now 13 months old and I've noticed that she's been dropping a lot of quills in the last week. In looking closely at her back I don't see any bald patches but I do see just a few new quills growing in.
Do all hedgehogs go through a quilling period when they're around a year old? And is the last quilling phase for most hedgies?
Some hedgehogs will quill at around a year old, though it usually isn't as major of a quilling as the earlier versions. Does her skin look dry or flaky? If not, I would continue to monitor, see if the quill loss stops on its' own. If it is dry or flaky, or she starts developing bald areas, you should take her to a vet for a skin scraping to rule out mites or fungal infection.
