poop problem - 2008/03/18 10:32 I wasn't really sure where to post this, but here is my problem. Lately, for the last month or so, I have been noticing that Digit get poop stuck near her tail. It does not get stuck to her opening, but just outside of it. It happens about two times a week, and every time it happens I need to soak her in water to get it off. Could there be a reason why this is happening? Is this common? Any ideas here would be great!

Re:poop problem - 2008/03/19 12:59 Cheap toilet paper. Happens sometimes, especially in hedgehogs who like to poo while somewhat sitting down. Either that or hedgehogs that go "if I poo then sit in it, my mom will twitch!!!!!!!" I assume we are talking just a small amount, correct? Not huge smears of poo all over the hedgehog's toosh?

Re:poop problem - 2008/03/20 08:20 Hedgies are funny about where and how they poop. I've found a poop stuck halfway up the cage wall.
I'd guess she has her little rump pressed against something while making poopies, so it gets stuck there.
Every once in a great while Satin has a dingleberry. I use baby wipes to get it off.

Re:poop problem - 2008/03/20 09:41 yeah digit does have a weird way of pooping. Her litter box is where her wheel is so she will crawl under her wheel with her butt in the air and then do her business. Should I try and bathe her every time this happens? Should I just leave it there? Will it fall off? She has another piece stuck to her this morning, so I just want to know what to do with it! http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=106956777

Re:poop problem - 2008/03/20 14:50 I would say not to bathe her because her skin would get dry. Perhaps try to use a wet papertowel or babywipe and wipe it off?

It is kind of gross, but it can't be comfortable at all! And since she can't get it off herself, she needs some help!

By the way I love the name digit!!

Re:poop problem - 2008/03/20 16:13 Agreed with what HH8 said about helping her dislodge the poop and not bathing her everyday.

A hedgie-wipe (unscented baby wipe) works wonders on that kind of thing. Or a moist washcloth.

Double check that it's not just dried on diarrhea though... do the rest of her poops look normal?

If all else fails, perhaps you could post a picture of a stuck-on poopy with a big red mark running through it. And then one of a clean tail-area with a smiley face. Place these pics near her favorite pooping spot. I'm sure she'll understand and cease this silly behavior immediately.

Re:poop problem - 2008/03/20 16:55 I will try the baby wipe idea. It is always VERY stuck on though and I don't want to hurt her!

Haa haa! That is SO funny.

Yeah, all of her poops are fine, the nice hard variety.
