EXTREMELY Flaky Skin - 2006/09/06 19:49 For the past few days (or four) I've noticed Lucy's skin is REALLY flaky. She's not losing any quills, except for the one I noticed this morning as I changed her liner.

The last time I gave her a bath was 2 1/2 weeks ago, do you think it's too soon to give her another oatmeal bath?

I put a few drops of Vitamin E oil on her back this morning before she went to sleep.

Could this be a sign of mites even though she's really not losing any quills? The one quill she lost had the ball (hook) on the end.

I haven't had the air conditioning on, so I don't think the house is too dry. I could set up a humidifier next to her cage though.

I haven't changed her diet, but I do have a question about that, could she need more fat in her diet? Natural Balance is 9% fat, CSFTCLS is 9% fat, and Blue Buffalo is also 9% fat.

I haven't changed detergents or our hand soaps when we handle her.

She's pretty huffy and started popping at me, very unlike her. She's not itching at anything though. But if her skin is this dry, it's probably irritated.

Help!

Re:EXTREMELY Flaky Skin - 2006/09/06 21:50 It could just simply be dry skin.... I would continue with the Vit. E treatments for a couple of days, and see if that helps before trying another bath.

The ball at the end is the root.

She could have mites and not be losing quills yet. It takes the mites some time to damage the quill folicals before the quills fall out.
