sick? - 2008/04/15 09:24 We got our baby girl hedgie last weekend. She's been showing some signs of stress, but they've been going on for a few days now and I am starting to get worried. The first 2 days she was great, much more outgoing than we expected. She let me pick her right up and unballed as soon as all feet were on my hands. Since then she has been much more defensive and pops when I try to pick her up no matter how gentle I try to be. Also the last couple days her poop has been wet and today we came home to find green poop in her cage. I think she has also been pooping a lot more the last day or so. I cleaned her cage on Friday and it is already completely covered. Should I take her to the vet or is it just adjustment difficulties?

Thanks!

Re:sick? - 2008/04/15 09:53 She could be quilling and that is why she is grumpier now. Are you finding any quills that have fallen out?

The green stool for the first few days can be normal especially if you change the food they are eating. Diet changes have to be done slowly to prevent this. Have you made food changes?

Re:sick? - 2008/04/15 21:13 No quills around the cage. As for diet, we've been feeding her a mix of the food from the breeder and Meow Mix. I didn't see any greenies today, maybe she's fine.

Re:sick? - 2008/04/16 10:14 Just keep a close eye out-but I'm sure you are. It sounds pretty normal for the first few days. If it was me I would ditch the meow mix and stay on the breeders mix and foods from the mix. Most breeders have good results with the mixes they use. I would schedule a checkup with a vet in the next few weeks to make sure you have a vet in place in case you need one

BTW welcome to the forum
