Odd Behavior - 2008/04/20 16:07 I just got done reading the articles about quilling and fasting but I wanted to post something in here to get everyone's opinion.

A few weeks ago I noticed a couple of random quills in the cage that had fallen out. I didn't worry too much about it as it was only one or two and my hedgehog appeared to be quite young. Then last weekend I got him out and he bit me REALLY hard, which was a first. I noticed about two or three days ago that he wasn't eating much food so I changed the bedding to monitor how much he was pooping. That was friday and since then he has barely touched his food and water and only pooped a few times. He appears to be running in his wheel still because there was a mess in there as usual. I also noticed that there is a bald spot between his ears directly in the middle of his back that I never noticed before. I don't see any flakes or anything that resemble mites...just a spot with no quills that I can only see if he is in the right angle or I part the quills around it.

So, does it sound like he is just going through "puberty" or should I be concerned and take him to the vet? My money is very tight so if its something to be concerned about then I will take him but if its probably not serious then I won't.

Thanks for the advice!!

Re:Odd Behavior - 2008/04/20 17:11 The bald spot between the ears is normal-some people call it a reverse mohawk. Its more noticeable on some than others.

If he is making a mess out of his wheel, he must be eating and drinking. Just keep paying attention like you have been You can use a food scale or postage scale to monitor his weight if you have access to one.
