Why do hedgehogs LOVE their TP Tubes? - 2008/02/12 17:55
So why do you think hedgehogs are so obsessed with their toilet paper tubes? Is it to hide? To burrow? To knock random toys around? To play hedgehog golf? Because they have an odd sense of fashion? 
Please let me here what ya'll think. I can't wait to hear everyone's ideas.

It's probably because their vision isn't great so they try to stick there big old bodies into that tiny tube... kinda of like when I go clothes shopping after thanksgiving

I think that they don't realize only their head is in them. They walk all around trying to get to the end, but they never get there.

Maybe they can't find any good-fitting clothing, so they find the next best things ill-fitting hats!

hahaha! I know I have given four hedgehogs over the years access to tubes of all different sizes including sizes they can fit into and the tp sized tubes are ALWAYS the favorite even if they have a tube large enough to hide in. Also light doesn't seem to be the issue either, because I've seen them play with the tube even in the dark! 
Harley will squeeze into his foam tube until it is around his middle like a skirt then put the tp tube on his head!

Sadly, Leona has no interest in tp tubes. Or toys of any kind, except sometimes the dog's chewed up toys. (Which she annoints with, but doesn't play with.)

Same with Hazel, but she's still a babe,so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that down the road she'll change and start romping and playing like all the hedgies I read about on this forum!!

Satin either. I tried when she was a wee baby and now that shes almost a year... no interest. She ignores her balls - ran through them last night to get to her food like they weren't even there. They rolled out of the way and stayed out of the way. She does play with her truck at night and her mealie/cricket dish once. I often find the truck in a different place and once found her dish pushed from one end of her house to the middle. It's a plastic blue dumptruck...

That dump truck is really cute. It looks like a similar brand to the little green car that Ham loves. He's shy but every morning I find his toys all upside down and moved around, so it appears he does like his toys after all.

When I first had Satin, she was so small that she was able to fit her entire body into the truck bed; now only her front 1/3 fits.
And we put mealies in there sometimes, so she definitely cruises for mealworms

But I really don't have a thing for HarleyDavidson motorcycles, I just liked the name. really!
However his personality is very suited to the wind in your quills freedom of a HarleyDavidson.
He's adventurous, fearless, active and very strong. He runs on his wheel all night and wants to explore everything. Yup he's bad to the quill...and I blame Emily. She was a bad influence on an impressionable hedge. Just kidding. He's great.
