My New Hedgehog - 2008/02/19 19:12 Very new to the hedgehog world. Just got my first baby from Kelly at Hamor Hollow! I got her yesterday and she's adjusting great. She hasn't huffled once and is the sweetest thing, she isn't afraid of anything! (so far) and has barely raised her quills. I took the approach of us getting to know eachother right from the start instead of leaving her alone for a few days and it's working out wonderful. Late last night I held her for a while and gave her treats and she was so sweet. Her first night she ate all her food, drank alot and covereddddd her wheel in poop! Today she came out for a little while and she got to explore my room and took a nap on my lap. I hope I'm not doing too much too fast but I'm thinking that the fact that she's being so outgoing is a really good sign.
She doesn't have a name yet, I can't decide between Winter and Scout. Any opinions??

Thanks for a great hedgie Kelly!

Re:My New Hedgehog - 2008/02/19 20:19 Just becareful that you let your new baby get lots of rest. But things sound like they are going great!

Congrats on your new baby and welcome to the forum! There is nothing like a furry prickly buddy. You have a new friend. And whenever anyone sees a picture they will ask you 1. What the heck is that adorable creature? and 2. How can I get one? lol

Re:My New Hedgehog - 2008/02/20 07:34 Welcome! She'll let you know if you are doing too much-she'll fall asleep like she did in your lap Personally I think it is better to handle your hedgie right away. When they come from a breeder they are used to daily handling and I don't see much sense in leaving them alone unless they are totally stressed out. She sounds like she is having a lot of fun getting to know you Ann

Re:My New Hedgehog - 2008/02/20 08:25 She's adorable!!!! I really like both of the names you picked!! I would say, if she's more of an active baby when you take her out instead of cuddling, to call her Scout (like she's scouting out the room)....winter otherwise? LOL. I dunno, just a suggestion. Either way you've got a cute hedgie with a great name

Re:My New Hedgehog - 2008/02/20 15:21 Ya she hasn't had any green or runny poop or anything and is very curious and has been eating and drinking so I don't think she's stressed. Still can't decide on a name.. so I'm thinking of combining and calling her WinterScout.. I'm sure eventually something will stick!
Thanks for everyones input!

Re:My New Hedgehog - 2008/02/20 21:48 I think she looks like a Scout and it fits because hedgehogs love to explore but both names are good.

And her little face is so cute!
