do hedgehogs faint? - 2008/03/20 08:01 My girlfriend called me into the room last night to check out our hedgehog. She said she was putting food in his bowl and on his scurry to the bowl he just kinda keeled over on his side... then shook and got up and walked over.

we watched him for a few more minutes, but he didnt do it again.

This morning I went to check on him and he was on his side with his head in his tube. I poked him and woke right up and started running around.

Is my hedgehog narcoleptic?

Re:do hedgehogs faint? - 2008/03/20 14:34 When in doubt go to the vet. That's all I know. Maybe he's just being quirky. They do that. Still if you are concerned the vet would be the best person to answer your questions.

Re:do hedgehogs faint? - 2008/03/20 16:01 When Satin was a wee baby, she used to fall asleep in the middle of playing. She once fell asleep curled around one hand with her face pressed upside-down into my other hand. But it wasn't quite so abrupt as you described... she always settled down a bit from running/playing before dozing off.

I'm leaning toward a vet visit... particularly if you see it happen again and everything else checks out normally (ie, there doesn't seem to be anything to "fix" on your own that caused it). Everything else meaning things like he's eating and drinking and pooping normally, he's the right temperature (about 75F), he's otherwise behaving normally...

Though, maybe he just tripped while running... what a mystery!
