I am so fierce! - 2008/03/25 10:16 Sweet potato and chicken beware. I will hunt you down and WEAR you!

Last night I gave Satin a treat: sweet potato & chicken baby food. From previous experience, I knew she enjoys turkey baby food and she anoints with sweet potato. You can see what happened above. She also put applied her food to her back feet and tail. I tried to get a pic of that, but she kept balling up.

On a related note, I found myself curious about the baby food… wondered how it tasted. But figured, “no, this is hedgehog food, I can’t eat that,” until it dawned on me that it was actually intended for human babies and would, therefore, be perfectly fine for me to try. After I got some out for her, I licked the spoon clean. Has anyone else done this?

*Blech* it was TERRIBLE! I’m trying to scrape my tongue off just thinking about it. I can’t believe human babies eat that stuff.

Re:I am so fierce! - 2008/03/25 12:56 Growing up my mom ran a home daycare and always made the baby food out of what we were having so I did that with my son too until one day we were out and about and I just grabbed a combo box of 4 different baby foods and since I am a firm believer in the rule if I don't like it I will offer it to my son but I won't make him eat it. Well like you I thought they were HORRIBLE!!! But since he needed baby food and the resturant we were at didn't have anything for him I gave him a bite of each and WOW clearly he liked them he cleaned out all four jars and after that I keep the jared baby food in the diaper bag for him for when we went out. I don't think babies taste buds are formed yet or something. YUCK!!! Dani Marshall Kansas

Re:I am so fierce! - 2008/03/25 22:51 that's such an adorable picture! i never tried giving Omelette baby food, so i can't say that i've ever tried it. but on a related note, when i used to work at Petco, we would always eat the cookies from the treat bar. not too bad. they taste like sugarless cookies. i've also tried these weird carob treats i got for my dog. they were HORRIBLE! it tasted like stale chocolate. oh and i've also had a taste of the Nutro canned desserts. i think i tried the apple one. in any case, it was rather bland. but i'm always up for trying new things, even if it is intended for dogs. Re:I am so fierce! - 2008/03/30 10:36 From everything I've read, baby food is just fine for hedgies. Messy, but fine

She really likes sweet potato, butternut squash, turkey & turkey gravy, sweet potato & chicken. And acknowledges apple and green bean. Banana, however, does not qualify as a food according to her. Nor do the gerber turkey sticks.

So far, turkey babyfood is the only one she doesn't anoint with; just eats it as if it was mushy kibble.
