K, first off congrats on the new room. I have read that Hedgehogs don't like to be with other hedgehogs and that they are solitary creatures...from the size of that room and from the way you all talk I'm thinking I was mislead. I was also under the impression that you couldn't keep the males and females together unless it was for mating and than after the babies were born if she even saw him she'd eat her babies....have I been lead WAY astray?

Proud,

Thanks! Okay, The hedgie room is not for the hedgies to be running around in. The hedgie room is just a seperated room from everything else and will 'hold' the hedgehog cages in it. I'll set up shelving units and have a storage spot for all the accessories(sp?) to go in. So its not a room to let the hedgehogs free roam all they want.

Males and Females cannot be held together in the same area unless for breeding you are right (in the same cage etc.). Nope you havne't been lead astray, I think your just misinterperating (sp?) what the hedgie room actually is

Re:New Room - 2004/12/01 20:28 yes you're right I was misunderstanding what the room was for. I thought it was going to be great big free roaming room for your babies. Now I understand much better. Thank you!!

Re:New Room - 2004/12/04 22:23 Proud, no problem!

The room was finally finished painted green! And Becca, the idea of the white board, we're putting it on one small wall, the section right between the two doors

Re:New Room - 2004/12/06 19:47 Eww! Don't you just hate the unhedgie friendly hubbies!?

I have a VERY small room. It can hold eleven hedgie cages (small ones) and it's a very tight fit to walk in. It's more like a walk in closet. The only reason I got that was because my USDA inspector told us we had to have a Hedgie only room. So my husband built it under the staircase where it would take up the least amount of room. Grr.

This spring we are building an addition onto our house for more human babies, and I will then, finally, get a larger hedgie room. I'm hoping 12 x 12 like Lauren's , but I"m sure it will be as small as possible if my hubby has anything to do with it!

Lauren, you are so lucky to have a supportive father like that. Be good to him!

Ta ta!

Re:New Room - 2004/12/07 22:38 Nicole, we should be expecting new human babies...YAY congrats!!! I cant wait, your daughter is just sooo adorable! hehehe when she tried to "scruff" Maple, roflmao! Keep us updated how it goes

The hedgie room is almost finished, we need to get the shelve supporters up, rather than using the two stools, but they are working for the moment, until we get them done. The rug is in, the temp. gets to 76*F and its looking great! We're getting a nice LARGE white cabinet in there within the next few days. Here are some updated pictures, the last few posts, I couldn't get the pictures in for some reason
