another question - 2004/12/01 08:40 I just changed Hester's shavings and changed the litter in her litter box, while she was in her excercise ball, well I put her back in her cage and she has spent the last five minutes rolling around in her litter box and curling up on her side and than just lashing around, than she stands up looks around, scratches and does it again.....what on earth is she doing? Is this normal, or has she lost her ever loving little mind?

Re:another question - 2004/12/04 05:11 hehehe Quite normal. Some hedgehogs do it often, some very rarely. But it isn't a completely odd behavior. It is similar to chinchillas dustbathing, and dogs rolling in the grass. Feels good.

Re:another question - 2004/12/04 08:04 Becca, thank you so much. My roommate figured it was a dust bath kind of thing, I thought maybe she was just losing her mind or having some sort of fit because I put new litter and new shavings in her cage and she was mad at me. I feel much better now that I know what she was doing. Should I give her a pan of something to "bathe" in or should I just leave it?

Re:another question - 2004/12/06 22:53 I personally am not a fan of sand or chindust in a hhs cage, and they are the most commonly offered forms of dust bath. As far as I am concerned, just leave things the way they are, and let her enjoy a roll in the fresh bedding when you clean the cage.

Re:another question - 2004/12/09 18:45 I Think that's what I'm going to do, looking at her cage there isn't a lot of room anyway for something else in there.

Re:another question - 2004/12/19 08:52 I offer my kids some chin dust, once in a blue moon. Some love it, others could care less, and a few think it makes a great litterbox. It is comical to watch, and the pogs seem to enjoy it. It's definitely not something i would offer all the time.
