How much time out of the cage/day? - 2005/01/02 20:44 I was just wondering how much time you guys let your hedgehogs spend out of the cage each day. I usually take Snoball out for around 1-2 hours each night from about 8-10pm and then I give her dinner. Sometimes, when I am cleaning the cage I take her out and leave her on my bed or the couch to sleep during the day. She does not like to be disturbed and usually just finds a place to go back to sleep when I do this. Do you think this is adequate?
Just wondering, Susan.

Re:How much time out of the cage/day? - 2005/01/03 05:12 Sounds good to me, Susan. Basically, I give my hedgehogs as much out of cage time as I can. Sometimes it isn't much, sometimes it is quite a bit. As long as the hedgehog is well socialized, getting plenty of exercise, and is not in the cage so much that they are completely bored, then exact time frame is pretty flexible.

Re:How much time out of the cage/day? - 2005/02/08 09:02 I have discovered that Hester Sue will let me know if she wants out or not, and if she's not ready to go back as well. When she wakes up I'll let her eat some of her food and root around for a few minutes and than I open her excercise ball and put it on the top of her log house. There are times that she bee lines up the side and into the ball and there are other times she looks at me like I'm insane and will have nothing to do with it. After she's been out for a while in her ball I'll try to put her back in her cage and sometimes she jumps out, eats her mealies and she's all good, but if she's not done being out and about she just won't come out of her ball in the cage, so I put her on a towel and she cuddles on the couch with me while I watch TV.

Re:How much time out of the cage/day? - 2005/02/11 22:54 yes she makes it VERY clear....but that's a good thing at least I know what she wants. I do enjoy her every day, even if it's just looking in on her while she's sleeping.

Re:How much time out of the cage/day? - 2005/03/28 05:12 Sometimes I let mine out to sit in my lap or my friends but they really prefer to run on their wheels and run with their tp tubes on their heads. Silly pogs. I think once I get the pool up the girls may become a little more interested in me. Ok I hope they do.

Re:How much time out of the cage/day? - 2005/04/27 23:46 Any time you want to spend with your hedgehog is good time. As long as she has a wheel and toys in her cage, I wouldn't worry too much. It sounds like you are doing a wonderful job with her, so I wouldn't worry. Kelly Sosik-Hamor
