Flower is home! - 2007/08/05 22:02 Hey everyone! Today I picked up my first hedgie, Flower!! I love her so much already! Ill post pics soon.

I just have a couple of questions

I was holding her before...and she has a bright pink spot on her tummy...im thinking its a quill poke because she went into a ball when she got startled..and she was in a weird position...so maybe thats it? Its not like an open wound or anything...just bright pink.

also...its night time and shes in her little hut sleeping...is that normal activity for when they first come home? Im sure it is because she didnt get much sleep today because she was in the car and stuff...and im sure shes all stressed out and whatnot.

also...shes about 8 weeks (ish) old....will she go on her wheel at this age or is she still too young?

anyways...im very happy shes finally home...i love her so much and i know were bonding already...i cant wait until she gets used to her new home!!!

Re:Flower is home! - 2007/08/05 23:11 When they are very young hedgies will sleep a lot, just like any other baby. When my hedgie was a baby she would sleep all day and only wake up for a few hours at night. I wouldn't worry about the sleeping too much, unless your hedgie is not eating or drinking. I brought my hedgie home when she was 8 weeks old and she used the wheel right away, even after never being introduced to it yet. Re:Flower is home! - 2007/08/06 05:42 If you got her from a breeder the pink mark could be an indentification mark so they can tell them apart. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

That's a mood tummy (think 70's style mood ring). Pink means she loves her new mommy and new home.

Seriously though, I agree with Stasi. She may have gotten a little nip or scratch. Put bag balm on it and see if it gets better or worse.

Don't worry about the sleeping, babies need a lot of sleep. Plus, it's been a very exciting day for her!

Re:Flower is home! - 2007/08/07 08:39 Cotton slept a lot when I first brought her home- and Noodles sleeps on and off during the day and comes out to munch, completely unlike Cotton who won't come out for anything. Cotton didn't use her wheel for a week when I brought her home... And Noodles used it the very first night.
