i got bit - 2008/01/14 15:42 Hey all! Its been some time since ive posted here...about darn time! ....alright...so i had my little girl, Flower, out the other day, and just like every day, at the same time, i lay down and let her snuggle under my shirt on my stomach. I find this helps her to wake up, and makes her feel secure and whatnot. So she falls asleep, which happens from time to time, and then wakes up and starts "digging" on my stomach. This happens alot too...its kind of uncomfortable, but not really, sort of tickles because her nails are well trimmed and she never breaks the skin so its just funny. Anyways, this time she dug for a while and then bit me. It was more of a tug (kind of makes me feel fat, like she thought the skin was movable or something! ) but anyways shes never done this before, and my skin was not scented or anything, so i just calmly took her out of my shirt and we had playtime as usual. I've been bit before, but this time it left three distinct teeth marks. What im concerned with is that there is two marks on top, and one on the bottom. Is this what their teeth generally leave when they bite? or is she missing teeth on the bottom? Iv never looked in her mouth...and im not so sure if i can. Anyways this is a bit of a bizarre post...but im just curious because if it is abnormal ill have to change her diet and whatnot to accommodate missing teeth. And is neosporin the best bet for putting on the bite i have? Thanks all

Re:i got bit - 2008/01/16 14:47 Yup wash it up and put some nesporin on it. (Seeing how it's been a day since you posted this, I assume you have already done that, lol).

As for the teeth marks, yes that could mean Flower is missing a few. The easiest way to find out is to give her a cotton swab to chew on. Press it at the side of her mouth until she opens it to let it in and VIOLA! You can press her mouth gently open and see what's going on.

If she has lost a tooth or two, don't worry. Just make sure her gums look pink and healthy. I wouldn't worry about switching foods unless she acts hungry, or she isn't eating the same amount of food or if she is losing weight. Kibble is the best food for dental health. My Isabel lost her teeth after she turned 5 and I eventually moved her to soft food.

I hope this helps!

Re:i got bit - 2008/01/16 15:17 Actually you are not supposed to put Neosporin on puncture wounds, which are technically what bitemarks are.

As for missing teeth, really the marks they leave all depend on the angle and pressure that the hedgie bit you with. Could have been favoring one side to get a good hunk using the back teeth and so forth. If you really want to see all her teeth take her out when she is really sleepy and cuddle her in a low-lit room. If she is anything like my Quent she will start yawning and hedgie yawns are HUUUGE so you should see everything back there.

Re:i got bit - 2008/01/19 22:22 That's great! I suppose she didn't mean to bite you and didn't put pressure on all of her teeth as Zorra suggest. But I love the Q tip trick.
