how long - 2008/04/20 22:38 I have had my hedgehog for two weeks now. I take him out every evening. He is now 8 weeks old. Some days he is less grumpy than others. I should probably say less scared because that is what I think it is. My question is how long does it take before they become friendlier? Mine will walk around and sniff or anoint your hair but he generally runs under some part of the blanket where he can hide. Do I allow him to continue to hide in the blanket even though he is on the bed with me or do I force him to be out in the open with no place to retreat.

Re:how long - 2008/04/20 22:49 It sounds to me like your hedgehog is being pretty friendly. They do instinctually try to hide in a nice dark place. If you put a blanket on your lap, he will probably hide in it on your lap. Or wear one of those hoodie sweat shirts and let him hide in the front pocket.

You can also try dimming the lights and turning down the noise. Also remember that babies need a lot of sleep, so having him fall asleep in your lap is fine.
