Ferret Food - 2008/04/20 18:27 I was wondering if it was alright to feed a hedgehog ferret food. There is ALWAYS numerous brands of ferret food at Petco...

And I've also heard of the catfood called Felidae, too. Is that any good?

Re:Ferret Food - 2008/04/21 08:34 Most ferret foods are high in fat. I use a mink food (gro-fur/select diet) in my mix, but try to be careful to not use a high percentage of it as it is very high in fat too. A little as a treat would be fine I'm sure.

For what it's worth, I personally feel Felidae is too rich for the hedgies. Since moving away from the super high quality high protein low fat cat foods, I've almost completely eliminated Fatty Liver Disease from my herd.

Re:Ferret Food - 2008/04/21 17:08 If you are going to a breeder, ask what they recommend. We all have different mixes. Ann

Re:Ferret Food - 2008/04/21 22:45 Felidae is way too rich. I used it awhile back and had issues with fat hedgehogs and fatty liver.

If you are making your own mix, I would stay away from ferret food. Some breeders will use a mink food in their mix, but in small quantities.
