Cricket Water - 2007/02/01 09:48 Has anyone ever used cricket water (it's a gel used for feeding crickets so you don't have to keep a bowl of water in their cage since they will drown in it) for hedgies when traveling? I saw it posted on a website for hedgies (www.exclusivelyhedgehogs.com) as a recommendation for use when traveling or shipping hedgies. I am not shipping, but am going to be taking the hedgies to shows and would love the convenience.

Re:Cricket Water - 2008/01/18 19:12 I've seen people use the cricket water when shipping hedgies. While I have never heard it hurts them, I would certainly only recommend it for short periods of time, not as their exclusive water source. An alternative I've also seen, is to put chopped fruit in the dish. There's juice there, and certainly none of the melons/berries you'd see in a mix like that are going to hurt a hedgie

Re:Cricket Water - 2008/01/20 10:41 i've used it for years and never had a problem. i also use these orange cube things from flukers, the name escapes me at the moment. it's cleaner and easier than using water and the stupid crickets don't drown themselves in it lol. i use the one with extra calcium in it just because.

Re:Cricket Water - 2008/01/20 15:18 For our little cricket farm we use a chick feeder bought from a farm supply store. we fill the bottom with those glass flat beads and then fill the top with water it makes it so the little guys don't drownd. I got the Idea off of the Ghanns crickets website only they want a ton more for something I paid 99 cents for. Mommy to 3 beautiful children

Re:Cricket Water - 2008/01/21 00:38 Since hedgehogs are primarily nocturnal and do most of their eating and drinking at night, I see no point in using it for day flights or short trips unless it is really hot (in which case, I would recommend slices of mellon).
