What kind of fruits/veggies - 2005/03/04 00:37 I just got my lil girl a few weeks ago, and I am new to being a hedgie owner. I was wondering what kind of fruits and veggies are good to give them. So far, I have tried giving her a raisins and bananas, which she doesnt seem to like. Any advice would be helpful

Re:What kind of fruits/veggies - 2005/03/04 12:14 I would nix the raisins, they can get caught in the roofs of thier mouths and cause a bit of trouble. We don't feed ours fruit since they are by nature insectivores. What they would most likely prefer is a cricket or mealworm.

Others here have tried various fruits and vegetables and may have a bit more insight about this topic.

Re:What kind of fruits/veggies - 2005/03/07 16:49 Any fruit I feed my hedgies is always in a very small quantity and they do have their own preferences. I have found that they all seem to like baby food fruits.
Each get about 1/4 tsp (or less) about twice a week, plus also baby food veggies about once a week. I have also given them chopped grapes and blueberries which they also seem to like.

I alternate what everyone gets, one night may be fruit and a small amount of cottage cheese, the next canned cat food, the following would be possibly veggies and cooked meat. And then an insect is always given each night. I also feed the "can o' " products from zoo med. They seem to like everything so far except for the snails.

Hope this helps,
Nicole
