Re:lizards? - 2008/02/01 18:27 Depends on your hedgehog. In the wild they can. A tame one might. “The fox has many tricks, and the hedgehog only one, but that is the best of all”

Re:lizards? - 2008/02/02 09:45 There was a video on you tube awhile back of a hedgie eating a baby mouse. It was quite disturbing. So they probably could, but I would be worried about them choking on the bones and stuff. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=106956777

Re:lizards? - 2008/02/02 12:32 Yes they most likely would eat it. I know that Kelly had a jackson chameleon that fell into a cage of young hedgies. He went in ......never came out...if you catch my drift Julie Pierce

Re:lizards? - 2008/02/10 23:16 Makes me happy that I keep the lizard and the hedgie apart. I really hate it when pets kill eachother. My ferret killed my chinchilla. It was terrible.

Re:lizards? - 2008/02/11 12:44 I read somewhere that a hedgehog is capable of killing a small snake, lizards, baby birds and other small animals. My first hedgehog Bartleby was an avid hunter, but we only let him loose on crickets. He loved hiding in grass and stalking bugs. Of course now I know about pesticides and no longer do this. Which is kinda sad because it's awesome to see a hedgehog in action. So yes I would definetly keep the hedge away from the lizard.

But each hedge is different. Isabel would never go for a live cricket, she was of the opinion if it wasn't dead and laying in her bowl, then it was too much work. Harley, however, spent Christmas having a staring contest with our pet bird.

Re:lizards? - 2008/02/22 17:16 I introduced Allie to by Brother's bearded Dragon lizard at christmas. Bear in mind she was 9 weeks old and tiny and the Lizard is about 4ft long.

My brother was holding the lizard, and i was holding Allie, close enough so they could sniff each other. Anyway Allie tried to bite the lizards head!

could not believe how cheeky she was. i thought she liked him, apparently she thought he was lunch!

Re:lizards? - 2008/02/26 08:22 YIKES!
This thread sounds like a monster movie
I see New York City being demolished by a race of super sized Hedge Hogs battling large lizards.

Is Japan safe???

Re:lizards? - 2008/02/26 21:40 One of my first encounters with how ferocious a hedgie can be was when visiting a larger breeder years ago, she had an empty, but looking somewhat lived in, bird cage. I, being nosey! lol, had to ask....turns out one of her hedgehogs got loose, found its way into the living room, climbed up to the bird cage, and PULLED the bird through!
I was shocked...and all I could think was wow...stupid bird....

Re:lizards? - 2008/02/27 10:38 Stupid Bird and Hungry Hedgie!!! What kind of hedgies was she breeding and were they the combo line that we have now or the original african hedgies as I have heard and read that birds-expectally parakeets and their large cousin are the hedgies second favorite meal the first of course is bugs. Holy cow! My mom has sworn for years that my first hedgehog Bartleby had it in for our cockatiel. I always kept them apart just in case. Grady the bird was always afraid of Bartlbey.
It's easy to forget your adorable ball of quills can also be a ferocious hunter.

I've heard many more stories like that, involving birds, mice, and a snake that I can think of...and actually seen what they can do to eachother and their offspring...

Re:lizards? - 2008/03/04 11:52 I must admit I have a lot of respect for my little prickly buddy now! I read this with Harley in my lap; he likes to watch the laptop screen like he’s reading, too cute. But unfortunately since we saw this, he now suffers illusions of grandeur that he’s a 16 ounce wolf with quills. Oh those little egos!
