How long? - 2007/09/08 11:14 Ok, well I have bred my hedgehog 1 time before. I left her & the male together for 2 weeks. I don't feel that they need to be together for that long, because if he's going to breed her, he will have done it with in the 1st day or two. I'm thinking I'll try a week this time.

I'm wondering how long you guys leave them together?

Thanks!
Emily

Emily,

There are definitely different methods. Here, I vary it depending on how aggressive the male is. So, most of my girls while being bred are in for up to two weeks, with some only being in for a few days.

Re:How long? - 2007/09/08 14:33 My boys Doozenberry and Funkhowser 'close the deal' very quickly so I usually leave them together for just a few days. Aarden is new at this whole thing so he stayed in with Clementine for a week - and it worked..we have a beautiful new litter from them! Julie Pierce

Re:How long? - 2007/09/09 11:48 Well Teddy has wasted no time in breeding....which kind of surprised me, since he is so laid back. So I thinking 5-7 days is PLENTY of time Emily

Re:How long? - 2007/09/09 13:34 you have to watch out for the quiet ones. That's why I keep Max totally separate from P-k... he might be four years old and arthritic and never been bred... but put a pretty young thing in the same vicinity and I'm sure I'll see there is life in the old boy yet!
