can you say I got babies... - 2004/11/17 22:56
Carabella finally poped this afternoon with four wonderfully small babies. I was having my doubts with her being pregnant at first. She hadn't gained any weight until day the later week which she gained 135 grams. Then I was just thinking that she could be pregnant, but she might just be getting fat because of the extra food Im giving her & she has had weight problems before.
Since its her first litter, Im not going to be going about it the same way I did with Rosie. Even though she doesn't seem to mind at all me checking in on her, she just nurses away, I dont want to risk anything. Im going to be needing to hold myself back from sexing the babies untill later on. Well thought that I would post we got babies since a few of you were waiting to hear when she would/if she was. Update you guys soon!

I couldn't help myself...
When I got home and went to check on the babies, one was on its back from nursing (a girl...only one i know so far) I thought that I just needed to get a few pictures. So I ran to get the camera, but when I came back the baby was flipped back over Anyways here is a picture of the wonderful Carabella who didn't even huff and her four babies.

Thanks you guys! Oh Carabella is a little doll, but with that being said, I still haven't touched the babies. Im not going to take that much advantage of her niceness (is that a word?) for her being a first time mom. In a little while, at a week old I'll get some more pictures of them up! hehe Im so happy about this litter, and Becca, looks like you'll be getting your girl no problem

Congrats on the babies, they are so very cute. I am curious though, what is that they are in, that is the neatest thing I think I have ever seen.

It looks to me like a nice big hedgebag! There is also such thing as a hedgie hat. Basically just a mini sleeping bag (hedgie bag) for hedgehogs. The hat looks like a dome and the hedgie sleeps under it.
And oh yea..LOVELY babies!  I cant wait to see what colors they turn out to be

Yup Sarah's right, its called a hedgie bag and this perticular one was made by tig at Hedgehog Valley.
I was able to get another picture today,

I have a sign in my house that says "one spoiled dog lives here" I am thinking I am going to have find one that says "one spoiled Hedgie lives here"....lol
There is so much I want to buy for my new baby!!!

have seen so much out there for them and I want it all. LOL Too bad I can't afford it. I cannot play favorites so I would have to get each of them one of everything. Lot's of these things you can make yourself too. I plan to get my sewing machine out and make a bunch of bags.

The babies are one week old today, and I was finally able to get some pictures of them out of the nest for the first time. I've been lucy to have such layed back mom's to be able to take pictures. I know there are a lot of mom's who would rather not have pictures be taken of their babies and I feel priviledged to be able to do so. There are two boys and two girls, the two boys are the lighter skined ones with whiter quills, the two females are the darker ones with fewer but still some white quills.

Those are not only cute babies but great pictures.

Thanks for sharing the whole progression from their birth to six weeks old. That is really neat how you were able to document them growing and growing that way! They are very pretty babies!
