WHIRLWIND WEEKEND!!!! - 2008/05/10 15:11
SO... Carlo and I just put in an offer on a house. Talk about nerve wracking! Please keep your fingers crossed for us.
We may also be adopting a very cute little albino boy whose owners are moving out of country!

Still waiting to hear about the albino baby.
We found out that there is another offer on the house. HOWEVER, the person who is co-owner of the house is a forest ranger in Maine so we have to wait for her to come out of the woods to look at the two offers and pick one.
BLARG!!!
So, to brighten things up... here is a picture of possible albino baby (he is about one year old):

Ah I know how you must feel! My friend has gone through so much to buy her first house. And five days before she is supposed to close, she still doesn't know if she is going to be able to get it. But good luck with house and hedgie. I hope all goes well!

We lost both the house and the hedgehog we were hoping to adopt today.
The other person who had a bid in on the house went higher than asking price.
The person who was going to adopt her hedgehog out "talked" her parents and brother into caring for him so she could "visit him anytime she wants." I don't agree that talking someone into owning a pet is ever good for the pet or the owner but hopefully it works out for all of them.

PS... Stasi, I think this albino was originally one of yours possibly. (as in I believe they purchased him from you).

CANDJ327 That stinks! I'm sorry everything fell through like that. If it's any consolation it's supposed to be a buyers market right now and maybe your dream house is still waiting for you! I hope that little hedge is happy and if it doesn't work out, that girl knows where to find you. God bless!

Yeah, I just recognized the photo. **sigh** why do people ignore the fact that they signed a contract stating they would NOT relinquish the hedgehog to someone else without at least checking with me first???
This comes on the tail end of me finding out one of my babies was killed when the person I sold him to gave him to some idiot who felt it was fine to put two males in a cage together...My baby ended up needing euthanized, he was severely injured and in a state of shock, and the other had emergency surgery, lost a leg and got stitches on his muzzle and elsewhere on his body.

Re:WHIRLWIND WEEKEND!!!! - 2008/05/14 10:22
My God! Stuff like that ticks me off so bad. This is why I could never breed anything. I just couldn't take it. I'd call that person and get in their face and storm their house and take the hedgie. Then I'd be in jail and need bond. I'd forget I was out on bond and one day wake up with Dog the Bounty Hunter on my tail. Sigh.
PEOPLE ARE SO IGNORANT AND STUPID. THEY DON'T DESERVE TO HAVE CHILDREN OR PETS! Harley's house has a heated corner, I turn on when it's slightly chilly. He loves to sleep in the spots thats warm. He gets good food. And if he sneezes I always wonder if he should go to the vet and my boyfriend says, "It was just a sneeze I'm sure he's fine." I've had to put down two hedgehogs (both cancer) and two golden retrievers (also cancer). Our family's pet bird (lives with mom) is TWENTY YEARS old and my beta fish Sushi is 2 years old and mean as ever. How can people not give their animals the care they deserve?! Why don't they learn about an animal prior to getting it. I swear to God!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
... and don't even get me STARTED on people's kids. Not that I am perfect because God know's I am so far from it but atleast I try.

Boy is it a good thing I don't own a weapon, know that person's address, or have no worries about going to jail, or they'd likely end up in the same state if not worse than the poor hedgehogs.

That's for sure. Some people don't even deserve to live.

I didn't know it was from a breeder at first
I wish they would have checked with the breeder they got him from first. I hope the parents they talked into taking him will bathe him, trim his nails and give him lots of cuddles like we would have done...
I give more credit to animals than I do to people.

Re:WHIRLWIND WEEKEND!!!! - 2008/05/16 06:56
Do people usually not relinquish their animals to the breeder because they can get money from someone else? We ran into this many times with dog rescue -- we ALWAYS put in the contract that they MUST relinquish the animal back to the rescue group....but we've found many that have ended up in the pound from the owner "getting rid" of them.
Or, do some of you breeders pay to take the animal back? I would assume not. Some people just want the money, and don't care about the wellness of their once beloved pet.....sucks.

Re:WHIRLWIND WEEKEND!!!! - 2008/05/16 18:37
We were really heart broken about not getting the hedgie
But even if he didn't end up with us we're just concerned he has the best quality of life possible.
Hopefully we'll get another baby in the next year once we're settled into our new home.
We put another offer on another house and they accepted. Just have to have it inspected and we're good to go (hopefully!)

I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Make sure yoou use a good inspector, and be prepared to pay a couple hundred. You get what you pay for, and a good inspector can save you a bundle.

Re:WHIRLWIND WEEKEND!!!! - 2008/05/19 23:16
thank you so much for posting this horrible incident...now i can show my husband that NO you CANNOT put hedgies all in the same box. He thinks that "well they'd be around each other in the wild, isn't it cruel to keep them apart in our homes?" I have stuck by my guns and not let him do this to my hedgies, but now i have something to show him as to what can happen!

Not every animal likes companionship. In fact in that regard humans are a little odd.

Hedgehogs LOVE company of the people variety but as for other hedgehogs well.. sometimes two is a crowd. I used to feel bad for my 1st hedgehog and worry that he was lonely. So I got him a buddy and he so didn't care. They weren't in the same cage of course. And after that I felt better. It's normal to assume your hedgehog is lonely but they really don't seem to miss other hedgehogs. Though Harley did seem to miss his brothers but he was 8 weeks old when I got him. Now he couldn't care less, unless he has a chance to poop on my boyfriend. He LIVES for that.
