Tweetle's new comfort wheel stinks just like the last one did!
I feel like calling up the company and giving them a peice of my mind!
Ok, now that I am done with my complaining, can I please have some suggestions for a different kind of wheel that they KNOW works, or maybe if they are trying to get rid of one, how to make one easily, ect...
Please and thanks! I feel bad for Tweetle and I really want to get him a wheel that I know is going to work!
Thanks, Felicia**Mommy of Tweetle the hedgehog!** ~Felicia :]

Re:I am very very very mad!! - 2008/03/12 17:20i've been interested in making a bucket wheel, but is it really silent? my boyfriend complains about hearing omelette wheeling all night. (i told him to go sleep on the couch if it really bothered him that much... ) the silent spinner wheel i bought sucks too. it falls over when it's on the stand. but if i attach it to the cage then it unscrews. and i don't like how fragile it is. i'm incredibly clumsy, so i dropped it when i took it out to clean it. needless to say a huge chunk broke off of it. has anyone had any major problems with the bucket wheel?Lisa My Heart Belongs to: Teddy, Sugar, Sapphie, Fudge, Archie, Chuckie - The Yorkies Wendy (Siamese Mix), Echo (Tabby) - Cats Omelette - Hedgehog Basil - Guinea Pig

Re:I am very very very mad!! - 2008/03/12 17:22I think Tweetle was too heavy for it (which i don't get because he is not overweight and is still a baby) Because if I hook it to the cage it falls off and if I put it on it's stand it falls off
I just ordered a silent spinner that a lot of hedgehog owners have and they seem to be happy with. Wish me luck with this one! Here is a pic of it:
Mines the big one obviously and it's 12" so he'll have plenty of room. I really hope that Tweetle isn't traumitized for life about running on wheels! Poor little guy
Well on the bright side, I did fast shipping so it should be here soon! Sorry for losing my temper earlier too, lol**Mommy of Tweetle the hedgehog!** ~Felicia :]

Yep! If made with the skate bearing, the bucket wheels are silent, with the exception of the pitter patter of hedgie feet Stasi Terrapin Hedgehogs Joppa, MD www.terrapinhedgehogs.com

Re:I am very very very mad!! - 2008/03/14 00:45HappyHedgie8, good luck with the new wheel. i think i might just give the bucket wheel a try. i have no life (since i obviously spend waaaay to much time on this forum obsessing over hedghogs...) so it would be nice to have something to make. harpgrrl, you're the one who made the knitted bed for your hedgie right? OMG that has to be the absolute cutest picture! i always show it to people who say "what's so cute about hedgehogs?" that pic always gets them.Lisa My Heart Belongs to: Teddy, Sugar, Sapphie, Fudge, Archie, Chuckie - The Yorkies Wendy (Siamese Mix), Echo (Tabby) - Cats Omelette - Hedgehog Basil - Guinea Pig

Re:I am very very very mad!! - 2008/03/14 13:21I originally had a Comfort wheel for Harriet, but quickly replaced it with a Silent Spinner, because I couldn't stand the noise.
You do need to be careful with Silent Spinners because the stand isn't big enough, making it top heavy, which is why they have a tendancy of falling over. If you want to use the stand then it is best to anchor it to the cage somehow (use zip ties or something), to prevent it from falling over and injuring your hedgie.
I have both of my hedgies in rabbit cages so can attach their wheels to the side of the cage, doing away with the stand completely. Fingers crossed, so far I have never had a problem with them coming loose, but I still check them every night to make sure they are on tight.Barbara with Hector & Harriet Hog Glasgow, Scotland

The first one we had was dropped and chipped so we replaced it. The new one kept coming unscrewed. It was attached to the side of the cage and if it didn't completely unscrew it would droop. We put it back on the stand it was top heavy and kept falling over. We got a comfort wheel and it didn't fit our cage at all so we returned it. We have resorted to zip tying the base to the cage to keep it from tipping over.
Carlo even wrote the company that makes both the silent spinner and comfort wheel about all the problems we've had with their wheels and they NEVER wrote us back. When this wheel kicks the bucket we'll probably just make our own.Ava's mom!

Re:I am very very very mad!! - 2008/03/15 12:00Its funny but a lot of it depends on the hedgies running style. Some tip over their wheels all the time and others never do. If you can attach the wheel to the cage, that usually solves the problem.Ann Connecticut Hedgehogs

Re:I am very very very mad!! - 2008/03/15 18:44I have quite a few kinds here: Comfort wheel - SUCKS -- falls off the stand, makes LOTS of noise....BUT, I found if I tied a piece of felt around the center rod in the back, it makes less noise, but can only be used on the wire sided cages (it doesn't fit right for C&C cages and can't imagine how you could make a hole it could fit in for the sterilite cages). Maybe this one will be going back soon Wodent Wheel - not too bad, but it is pretty narrow inside -- only good for smaller hedgehogs. It is easy to clean (it basically all falls apart so you can really get in there). It is silent, and pretty inexpensive. Silent Spinner - I like this wheel a lot -- I have two of them. They haven't fallen over for me, and they fit the C&C cages and the wire cages (and sterilite if you put holes in them). For me they are a bit harder to clean because of all the ridges
Wheel from Quality cages - This is my new favorite, but it is HUGE!!! It doesn't fit one of my cages comfortably. I like that it is VERY easy to clean, seems like it will last forever, and can be hung on any type of wall or free-standing. (I think the hedgies like them the best too because they get VERY dirty overnight!!)
I've yet to try bucket wheels, but I heard they work great. I just could never decide who I wanted to buy them from Plus, with the rave reviews I got about quality cage's wheels, I thought those were my best bet (they are expensive, but worth it -- it cost $25 a piece + $8 shipping for one, or $50 + $9 shipping for two, so I had to get two )
HTH. Good luck

Re:I am very very very mad!! - 2008/03/20 00:03I've only ever used the quality cage wheel but I have to agree that it is great. I think the two open sides really helps keep things clean and it's a breeze to wipe off anything that ends up getting stuck.Check out Ham's Blog !

Re:I am very very very mad!! - 2008/03/28 17:46I use the Super Pet 12" wheel sold at Petco or Petsmart and have had no issues with it. We had a Silent Spinner for our rats, attached to the side of the cage -- which worked great until it actually broke the cage. I think it was the constant flexing of the wire pieces of the cage caused by the wobbling of the wheel as the ratties ran-- but it didn't take long, and it was an expensive rat cage! For that reason we would be hesitant about attaching a wheel to a hedgehog cage. Hedgehogs might not run as fast, but I think the weight is about the same. Our rats actually now use a hedgehog bucket wheel that I bought for Leona from Hedgehogs by Laura but that didn't fit in Leona's cage. They love it (but sometimes gnaw on it).
