Re:my bin cages - 2008/05/12 15:16 That's pretty snazzy looking! It looks to small to be a cage though, is it for transporting your hedgehog? Stasi

Re:my bin cages - 2008/05/13 10:25 I really sorry to say this (because it will make you feel bad)

iron window like that isn't good for your little friend... I wonder if your hedgehog climbing and their legs are going to stuck and break???

I know there're a big hole, but every one use a big hole like that and the same thing can be occurred!

I have many case in the hospital near my house that use kind like that window, trust me... take it out

besides, if your house have mosquitos like my house, your hedgehogs might be sick too..

I didn't blame you or and any thing like that... but I don't want your little friends are going to hurt...

Re:my bin cages - 2008/05/13 11:40 Qestion for you Kane

what do you think about just using the wire mesh as an insert in the lid? But not putting it around the permiter of the container (as seen below).

The sterilite containers that i purchased are very deep, so my hedgie can't climb out.

I just have a little problem with curious cats that are at my boyfriends mom's house. (Which my hedgies aren't at very often, but i still need a lid for protection when they are visitng her)

I was going to drill holes in the lid (as ive read in prevous articles/posts)

What is best for me to do?

Re:my bin cages - 2008/05/14 07:49 dear friend

I think you can use plastic instead of the wire. it will be more safe than the wire. Since it couldn't climb out, but it try to climb up. their hand may be stuck in the hole between the wire. I know that it deep, but after you put bedding inside it thiner than before, right?

umm...so? your hedgehog still have a chance to let their hand stuck in between.

let see...

imagine that your hand stuck in the tiny window, you might ask other people to help you out, but hedgies didn't do that but just try to pull out with out any thinking. then break...

You might find plastic instead of the wire, and see the small hole. I'll post the picture after I go back home. It will cost you more time to do and about 1 dollar I guess, but in your country might be higher than 1 dollar ??? IDK

anyway, hope you understand me

Re:my bin cages - 2008/05/14 09:23 Normally my hedgehog always wanted to get out from that cage, she love to sleep on my belly

Umm..that kind of cage can protect your hedgehogs from mosquitos, but not... a rat..... once a rat from the next house bite my plastic window, and then that rat just sleep with my hedgehog in a warm house... (-.-*)

So if you have a rat in your house...I would recommend you to buy something stronger but soft for hedgehog... like... thicker plastic

Re:my bin cages - 2008/05/15 01:15 the cage i posted is a small one (small screec suitable also for hamster).. i have these bigger sizes and the screens i used was 1/2 by 1 inch so they have no problem with it and the window is 4 inch high from the floor.. the one i posted was 3 inch.. it should be high so that when they play, wood shavings wonts go out of the cage and mess out..

i used a 1/2 inch aluminum panel (flat bar) and drilled holes to it with the bin.. using a metal drill bit.. then put a rivet the smallest one found in your local hardware supply, and put some washers in the back so it wont damage the plastic part (bin)..

hope u liked it..

Re:my bin cages - 2008/05/15 09:17 I think 3 inches or 4 inches is not the point for climbing. you can use 1 inches but also prevent it climbing around too. My hedgehogs length from front legs to back legs is around 8-10 inches when they try to climb....

For example...

so I think you just change that wire and protect everything you love.

You have natural talent for taking pictures. On top of that, they're pictures of hedgehogs!! Way cool!!!
That should be a hedgehog olympic - rock climbing!
