Some suggestions please! - 2008/06/22 21:40Ok so now that Tweetle is well settled in and everything, I am thinking about getitng a new cage for him. (I have some money saved up)
I think I'm going to get a C&C cage, so I need to know what you guys reccomend for the best places to buy, the space I need, and expecially the estimated costs.
Looking over some pictures on the cage forums, I absolutely LOVE saabgirl's cage she has for her hedgie. I'm looking into something like that, maybe a bit smaller.
Thanks a bunch!

Re:Some suggestions please! - 2008/06/22 21:46I like the C&C cages because you can make pretty much any size! I got the cubes at target for about 20 dollars. For the coroplast I had to use cardboard for awhile until I could find the coroplast. There are not any places I could find around me that sold it. Eventually my boyfriend found some at his work (he works at Lowes). I guess there was a box that was made out of coroplast, so he just took it home.
I also noticed that on a lot of C&C cages, people make the plastic stuff go up the side, do you have to do that? It just seems a lot easier not too.
Another thing is do you have to make tops for these cages? Thanks again for all the help!

Re:Some suggestions please! - 2008/06/23 16:38I do not make he plastic go up the sides. I have a very clean hedgie though, and she ONLY uses her litter box. The only place that I made the plastic go up the side of her cage is around her litter box, so that the care fresh will not fall onto the floor. Also if you are going to make the plastic not go up the sides I would make sure that it is flush with the walls of the cage so that your hedgie doesn't get its legs stuck in between the bars.http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=106956777
Ok so I am seriously considering making this C&C cage. I want to make it fairly big, and it wont nessecarily be a perfect rectangle because I might make it fit to a corner.
Looking around at the C&C setups that people have online and everything I kind of want to use the C&C cubes as a stand, because then I can make it fit perfectly to the size of the cage and have little pockets to hold Tweetle's things.
PS: they have the cubes in multi colored, black, white, pink, and purple all for the same price! I didn't think 20 dollars was to bad! **Mommy of Tweetle the hedgehog!** ~Felicia :]

Also you might not need to get two boxes. Just depending on what size the cage is going to be. If you get a box that has enough for 6 cubes, and make a 2x3 (which is roughly 28" x 42"), then you would only need ten grids. (More if you decide to use them as a top and bottom.) So you would have plenty left over to make a playpen.

Re:Some suggestions please! - 2008/06/23 23:23I don't have any cats or dogs so I don't think I need to worry about a sturdy top. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Re:Some suggestions please! - 2008/06/25 21:19Good news! I ordered two sets of 4 cubes from target, 20 dollars each! I also looked in the phone book for a sign company near by me and they had white, blue, red, and black coroplast. Looks like I'm having good luck!!
I have a plan in my head about the whole thing. I am going to have it in the corner of my room and I'm going to make it without a lid because I don't have any other pets. I am also going to make it stand up with the cubes because I have a feeling I will have extra, and it may be hard to find a table shaped like the cage I am going to make
Sorry if I'm obsessing I'm just exited. I love doing and making new stuff, and I can't wait to show all you guys pictures!! Tweetle can't wait either!!

Re:Some suggestions please! - 2008/07/06 13:39Yay! The Cubes are here! They were delivered yesterday so I am starting to do the set up today, I decided that I was going to put the coroplast up the sides a bit because Tweetle isn't nessesarily the picture of clean, if you know what I mean!
Well anyways, just wanted to update you guys! Tweetle is looking across the room from his current cage, and I think he is getting exited too, lol!
