Emergency vet visit..... - 2008/02/28 16:06 So we noticed yesterday that Pepper stopped eatting all together and was very lethargic. We couldn't get him to eat anything and his breathing was very laboured and he was wobbling around so we rushed him to the vet this morning and amditted him to the animal hospital. The vet called an said that he had died while she was examining him. He had another abcess in his mouth which she figured was cancerous and he was suffering from liver and kidney failure. My world feels like it has crashed down around me and everything reminds me of him. Thankfully my husband is strong and helped me to go back and see him to say good-bye. I know he's in a better place, but that doesn't stop the tears. Thank you all for all your help and information in the past.

Re:Emergency vet visit..... - 2008/02/28 16:25 Oh Peppersmama I am so heartbroken for yuo!! I wish you were here I would give you a big hug. I know it can't change anything but I hope you can feel the love and deepest sympathy.And I don't know if it helps but I am shedding a tear (or two or three) for little Pepper.Just be thankful it wasn't long and drawn out.Try to be thankful he didn't suffer, even though it's probably hard to find anything to be thankful for right now.

I think there should be a quote;

Re:Emergency vet visit..... - 2008/02/28 17:43 Pepper was a gorgeous hedgehog who had a wonderful family. I know you are devastated but I promise you he was happy and had no regrets. It's amazing how those little bodies house such big hearts. God bless you during this difficult time.

Re:Emergency vet visit..... - 2008/02/28 19:45 I am so sorry about your hedgehog Pepper!

No hedgehog can replace your beautiful hedgehog Pepper. I know you must feel really sad, and this probably doesn't help but atleast he didn't suffer too too much and thankfully it wasn't stretched out too much.

I assure you he is a lot happier now, and is watching over you going, "Hi Mama!"

I know you must have loved pepper a lot, and we are all here to help you through this hard time!

Love,
Felicia and Tweetle

Re:Emergency vet visit..... - 2008/02/29 10:29 I'm so sorry!

When you lose a pet you really are losing a member of your family.

I know that this probably wont help you at the moment, but you gave Pepper a fantastic life and spoiled him rotten, better than any hedgie could ever dream of. And, though it was his time, at least he went fairly quickly and didn't suffer.

Thinking of you.

Re:Emergency vet visit..... - 2008/03/02 17:15 Thank you all for your kind words. I'm starting to feel better now that we disassembled his cage. That was the hardest thing to do as we made him a large 2 story cavy cage so it was hard to walk into the room and see it there. Now that it's just a pile of wire grids in the storage room I feel better. I had a moment today as I was driving down the street past the pet store and forgot for a moment as I almost bought some meal worms for him.... Maybe some day we'll get another little guy from a breeder.

Re:Emergency vet visit..... - 2008/03/31 19:55 I am so sorry to hear this. I wish I could say something to take the pain away but I know that is not possible. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I know how much you loved your little hedgie and it sounds like he had a really happy life and experienced a lot of love from you and your family.
