hemp litter???? - 2006/10/06 22:39So do we have a final judgement on the Hemp Litter? Thumbs up or down? Did anyone find out if you can buy it in Bulk?
I've never seen it around me, but then I buy my bedding at the fee store.
If you have any, bring some to the gathering. I want to see (smoke) it.

Re:hemp litter???? - 2006/10/08 19:43Yeah just think how mellow the hedgies would be! Can't you picture them all sitting in their cages listening to Bob Marley, their quills styled into dreadlocks, too mellow to ball up......HahahahahahJulie Pierce Pierce's Pogs http://www.piercespogs.com

Re:hemp litter???? - 2006/10/27 03:26I tried hemp litter and I found that my hedgehog was very allergic to it, she started getting severely dry skin and sneezing. I took her to the vet and it was decided that it was the bedding. It also does not seem to have very good odor absorbing properties but maybe my hedgehog is just extra stinky.

Re:hemp litter???? - 2006/10/27 15:24You know, if I remember right. my pipe in college was always full of resin which was very oily. hemp has oily residue. I would not think that would be great for their respiratory system. The other thing is that hemp smoked is the same as smoking cigarrettes as far as carcinogens go. 1 joint is the same as two cigarrettes roughly. (I know, too much cancer nursing, sorry). I am thinking it might mellow a really grumpy hog though. LOLCyn and Hedgie Boys

Re:hemp litter???? - 2007/07/05 16:10Hi, I thought I'd pass along our experience with hemp bedding. The first time we put Truffle in with some (his first day home), he started chewing on it, followed by MAJOR self-annointing! The next day, it was scattered EVERYWHERE-in the water, in the food. So, then I tried "eco-bedding" which is made from little crinkles of brown paper. Also ended up everywhere. Truffles clearly prefers burrowing under a liner, rather than bedding. So, I think that is what we will go with for now. As for litter training-well, it's the wheel, stupid! He he.

I'm not so sure it was the hedgie that disliked the bedding. It sounds to me like ge had a grand time throwing it around!

Re:hemp litter???? - 2007/07/06 15:41Hmm, had not thought of it that way. I guess I'll give it another try, maybe on half the cage bottom.

Re:hemp litter???? - 2007/07/06 16:17I use fleece liners and P-k just goes under them. With the three hedgie's I've had I would put a handful of carefresh in the corner for toileting. I just stopped that practice with P-k, her cage is trashed every night... food crumbs all over, fleece all bunched up, carefresh all over the place. Pooh is mashed on the wheel or in easy to pick up clumps on the fleece. I really have to stay atop of cleaning her tank and changing the fleece once or twice a day. Because the carefresh is not being used for potty and just looks more like a halloween prank of toilet paper strewn about... I've discontinued carefresh and now put a handful of fleece scraps in the corner that she has taken to burrowing into. These get put into a mesh bag and washed with the fleece liners. She is truly a wild woman that loves having a good time!
