Fleece - 2007/08/04 12:37 Does fleece pose a problem for hedgies like finger and toes nails getting stuck to it? I know when I had a sugar glider before, her nails would get stuck to it and she wouldn't be able to move until she got herself off. Thanks. ~Erin~

Re:Fleece - 2007/08/04 13:11 Fleece poses no problems to hedgehog nails whatsoever. It is considered a great liner among hedgie owners. It has the added benefits of a lower frequency of your hedgehog acquiring mite infestation (which is usually due to the wood type bedding), cheaper overall, and easier to clean up.

Of course, I may be a little biased having my hedgies on fleece

Re:Fleece - 2007/08/04 20:19 So your hedgies poop and pee on the fleece? I think that would be much messier then say newspaper or other bedding. You would have to wash it instead of just throwing it away. ~Erin~

Re:Fleece - 2007/08/04 21:20 I love fleece. I change it every morning and if it a really hot summer day and there's an odor (max has problems) I'll change it a second time in the early evening - throw it into a mesh laundry bag and do laundry once a week. You can not detect I have a pet when you come into my house, there is no fill or shavings to sit and collect over the course of a week. I now have two hedgies and it makes it so easy and when you go away over night and have someone watch your hedgie they will tell you how easy they were to take care of! Buy the anti-pill kind, it costs more but you'll get more washings out of over the course of a year.

now, sometimes you will have a hedgie that likes to crawl under the fleece, both Pippi and P-k were burrowers but Max is not. What to do so they don't tip their food and water bowl? Put one in each corner at the end of the cage/bin. And cut out that end of the fleece to go around the cup of food / bowl of water if you use the bowl (I've done a square and also a semi-circle). Take those scraps or other scraps of fleece cut into a quilt square and place it under the food and water. This way the bowls are atop fabric to catch crumbs and water but not the fabric they will disrupt by burrowing under.

JoAnn fabrics has really good sales and coupons. Walmarts also has fleece but I don't know if they have anti-pill. My max loves the plushiness of the fleece I use (I'm guessing since he does not dive underneath it). Go the extra couple of bucks and get something with some plushness, the cheaper lightweight stuff will 'pill' up in a short amount of time.

Re:Fleece - 2007/08/04 22:58 I use a fleece liner as my hedgie is very good about using her litter box, so she rarely makes a mess on her fleece. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=106956777
