Re:liners - 2008/02/06 17:09 Jade,
They are very easy to make just buy some fleece and cotton or blue jean material and measure the bottom of the cage to the litter box and then cut it to size sew the two pieces together and there you have it a hedgehog liner.

Re:liners - 2008/02/06 18:34 I would just make sure that the fabric does not have any loose strings that the hedgie could get caught and wrapped around their feet. Ava's mom!

Re:liners - 2008/02/07 09:08 I've heard that some people just cut some fleece or vellux to size and plop it down. No need to sew since they don't fray! If you want it double layered you could just put one piece on top of the other... Check out Ham's Blog !

Re:liners - 2008/02/07 19:21 The idea behind using liners is that they can be re-used and over time the savings, over constantly replacing shavings, will be noticeable. So, yes... they are intended to be re-used. Check out Ham's Blog !

Re:liners - 2008/02/07 20:21 Depends how messy your hog is I would guess.

Once a week is the word on the street. Kind of like how often you supposed to change your sheets.

Re:liners - 2008/02/07 22:53 My little animal tends to do all of his poo-ing in one spot (on his wheel) so it's easy for me to just stick a paper towel underneath the wheel and change that when it's dirty. That way I only have to change the liner once a week. I suppose if he was messier (and I was less lucky!) and just did his business all over the place I would probably need to change it every few days. Check out Ham's Blog !

ah you just described my hedgie perfectly! which is actually why i've been a little reluctant to try liners. i tried to litter box train her, but she just likes sleeping under it.

Re:liners - 2008/02/15 18:35 I purchased some fleece and cut it to the size of the cage bottom and just placed it in the cage. My hedgie, however, just crawls under it and lays on the plastic bottom of the cage. I have a shirt of mine and a baby blanket in the cage already for him to borrow under, but he still goes under the fleece. Can anyone help me?? My Hermey has only been home for two days but I want to figure out bedding issues right away so that I can get him in a habit, instead of switching everything up and confusing the poor guy. I don't know if I should try taping the fleece in the cage or something, but I just want him to be warm and comfy and not have to sleep on the bottom of his cage!

Please help!

Re:liners - 2008/02/16 07:25 Hedgies like to burrow, so it is nothing to worry about. If you want to use duct tape to tape it down you could, but that is not really necessary. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=106956777

Re:liners - 2008/02/16 12:52 Ok I guess I will try to tape it down. I guess he doesn't mind layin on the plastic if he does it every day... like I said I just feel bad because I am sure its not that comfy! Thanks. ~Jessica~

Re:liners - 2008/02/16 16:00 you could also try velcro. just attach a few pieces to the bottom of the cage and attach some to the fleece liner. Lisa

He may like the plastic very much. I have a number of hedgehogs here who will push all the bedding out of one area so they can lie splatted out on the plastic. I don't think they'd do it if it made them uncomfortable.
