i don't think the green liners would hurt a hedgehog. but if you're going to use a liner, i'd suggest a fleece one. you can change them out and their machine washable. they are soft and comfy for your hedgie. hedgies also like to dig, so make sure to provide blankets, or a hedgie bag. mites are more of a problem with shavings. and yes it is based on a few factors. you can use shavings for an animals entire life and never have a problem with mites. animals with a lower immune system are more prone to mite infestation. read the article about mites on this web site for more info
