Quiet water bottle? - 2005/06/26 04:45 My hedgie's water bottle makes a racket at night as the little metal ball moves around in the metal tube. I'm used to the sound of the running on his wheel now, but the water bottle still wakes me up every time! Does anyone know of brands of water bottles that are made out of plastic or something quieter than metal, or at least metal ones that aren't super loud?

Re:Quiet water bottle? - 2005/06/27 02:18 Using a ceramic water dish is pretty handy. They drink out of it just like little dogs.
I had both for Hans for awhile, then when he was using both, I took away the water bottle and just left the dish.

Re:Quiet water bottle? - 2005/06/30 08:00 I am sorry but I do not know of any quiet water bottles. You could try the flip top bottles by Farnam or Lixit and see if they are quieter since they do not use a ball.

I prefer bottles to bowls because the bowl can be contaminated too easily. Bad hedgie, no biscuit!

Re:Quiet water bottle? - 2007/02/07 10:09 a glass water bottle with a glass tube does not have a ball as the glass makes its own suction.

Re:Quiet water bottle? - 2007/02/07 11:30 Have you tried a water bowl? I used to use only a water bottle for Pepper but then I noticed that the second I put him in his bath he drank a ton! So I tried a water bowl and left the bottle in there too. The bowl is almost always empty in the morning and he won't touch the bottle. I also noticed he is eating more now too! I think he was only getting just as much water as he really needed to survive when he had the water bottle only! Thankfully Pepper is pretty clean when it comes to keeping stuff out of the bowl. It's worth a try...

Re:Quiet water bottle? - 2007/02/08 08:17 I used to think that bottles were cleaner too. But, one night one of the bottles started leaking and would not stop. Of course, this happened after all the stores were closed and I could not run out and get a new one. I put a bowl in the hedgies cage so he would not go without water and low and behold the little guy drank like he hadn't had water in months. Both of mine are on bowls now and they don't mess up their water bowls. Cyn and Hedgie Boys

Re:Quiet water bottle? - 2007/02/08 20:39 I use a water dish too and always have... Kumquat couldn't seem to figure the water bottle out when I first got him, so a dish it was. It's clear plastic and has prety high sides, so aside from the occasional woodchip, he's pretty good about keeping stuff out of it.
