Dislikes toys?? - 2005/11/27 23:47 Okay...its the ever inquisitive one back for round two...

Hamza does not seem to like toys. I've given him a wheel (won't go near it), a TP tube (sniffs it, then walks away uninterested), a small stuffed cat toy (same reaction as the TP tube). Is this normal? I feel like he should have SOME toys, but all he does in his cage is eat, drink, potty, and sleep/burrow. Any thoughts? Should I get him more toys to try out, or just let it go? He doesn't seem to want to venture out for exercise/play when he's out of his cage either. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Re:Dislikes toys?? - 2005/11/28 03:39 If he likes mealworms you could hide some in the tube, or you could build a maze and put him in it (I made one for Aragorn out of some old duplo that was lying around). You could also use a substitute for the mealworms if he doesn't like them. Pets:
Timmy (M, neutered) and Smokey (F, spayed) the maine coon and something else rescue cats.
Aureus (Unknown, called He) the goldfish.
Pepper (F) and Briar (M) the hissing cockroaches.
4 Minnows, rescued from being live bait.

Re:Dislikes toys?? - 2005/12/02 11:56 Have you tried the plastic cat toys with the bells in them?
Binta loves those as well as Beanie Babies and toilet paper tubes.
She just got a wheel and was on it most the night and also enjoys cruising around in her plastic ball. Spike on the other hand plays with no toys but is an Olympic caliber wheeler! From what I have read some Hedgies just don't like to play with toys but most do like the wheel.
Also wondering what the temp is in the room he is in?
Some Hedgies are less active if the temps are cool...just a thought.

That sounds like it would be good for hours of fun!

Re:Dislikes toys?? - 2007/07/23 21:57 I seem to have the same problem. Caesar and Zelda will use their wheel, but, that's about it. I've tried TP rolls, cat balls with bells, small dog congs, a small dog pull toy, rubber balls, and toy cars. Nothing. they just look at it, and walk away. The best I've ever did was a ripped up sock. Caesar played with for one night, and that was it. Is there any other thing I should try?

Re:Dislikes toys?? - 2007/07/24 06:00 Ha! I have a Zelda too, and she also is not big on the toys. Another thing you can try is spread out an old t-shirt on your lap and pop the hedgie inside. Zelda likes crawl around in there, exploring the sleeves and neck holes, and I think she feels more secure because she's covered.

Re:Dislikes toys?? - 2007/07/24 09:11 Pippi didn't bother with tp rolls, balls but she did like this huge red bow I would SUPERVISE her with so she didn't chew - she'd flip it over with her nose. Oh, and she's growl when John went to reach for the tv remote, she considered it hers and would also butt it - I personally think she liked the salt from our hands.
