Re:liners on wheels? - 2008/03/23 10:56I personally, am not a fan of attaching anything to the wheels. In all reality, what really can be easier to clean that plain smooth plastic? Attaching fleece would mean that you would be washing extremely dirty fleece daily. Also, attaching any sort of velcro that isn't easily removed makes me think that the poop & pee and only going to make the velcro dirty and that's unsanitary.
We'e never had a hard time cleaning wheels. If its a clean night we do a quick wipe down with baby wipes. If its messy or for our once per week deep clean, we let the wheels soak in a water/vinegar solution and the mess wipes off with a dry paper towel.~LiSa~

Re:liners on wheels? - 2008/03/24 06:13Omelette-personally, I liked hearing your idea because you never know where it may lead...sometimes something that starts out sounding kind of odd or silly turns into a good thing-you just never know what will happen when people start talking about it on the forum.
I use wet paper towels/soap/white vinegar or a good soak if the wheels need it, but if someone has something that works for them, like the press and seal stuff then that is fine too. I am all for anything that makes cleaning easierAnn Connecticut Hedgehogs

I was going to start a new post but then I saw this one so I mind as well post on here... What do you guys use (or have heard of using) for covers on your wheels that are disposable? I'll keep press and seal in mind... thanks Ann!

I know exactly where you are coming from. Harley sleeps in my room and honestly hedgehog poo doesn't stink UNLESS they eat cat food and of course it's nothing but the best in cat food for my little guy so .. yeah.. we had a STINK issue with the wheel. What I did is got a 2nd wheel. I take the old wheel out when I get home, and put it to soak in a giant bucket. I give Harley the clean wheel while the other is drying. The glad press & seal works well. Though Harley won't poop in it, so now there is a neat little pile next to the wheel every morning that I can scoop up with the litter scooper. And after all of this he still somehow manages to get poopy feet! I have no idea how. He's a poop genius! But it's all worth it when I'm on the pc and he's sitting on my shoulder purring in my ear.

Re:liners on wheels? - 2008/03/24 17:53i've been using the press and seal stuff. and it works great. except sometimes the urine will seep through. also, i'm incredibly clumsy so in my attempt to remove it, poop flies everywhere. maybe i'm just not putting it on right? and yeah i have omelette's cage in my bedroom. and those "midnight poop runs", well lets just say the stink is enough to wake me up. i've been considering getting a new wheel, so maybe that in conjunction with using baby wipes, and the press and seal might help make things a whole lot easier. i guess i have to just try and see what works. thanks for the suggestions! It's not a big deal; we just go in before work, take the wheel out, put it to soak in the sink with warm water & dish soap, check the food dish, scoop out poop, do whatever else we need to do, then go back downstairs, take the wheel out of the sink and wipe it down & dry it and put it back. It probably takes less time than applying new press & seal or panty liners or whatever. Generally the only thing that smells about Leona is a dirty wheel -- so if we wash it every day she's the least-offensive-smelling creature in the house!
