eyebrows - 2007/09/13 14:29 My Maxfield is a handsome distinguished four year old hedgehog. He runs well and we have dealt with the health issues he arrived with and even his bladder problems are lessening. From how he runs on his wheel you'd never think of him as an older hedgie until you see his slow arthritic walk (and I crumble something the vet gave me into his food).

His age shows in his tired looking eyes and slightly wrinkly snout. This morning he peered out at me and I realized one reason why he looks so old are his bushy eyebrows. Wish I could take a photo but I wouldn't subject him to such a close-up flash. I've never noticed this on my other hedgies, does anyone else's hedgies have really heavy eyebrows?

Re:eyebrows - 2007/09/13 15:40 One of the ways that helps me get an idea on age is the 'grizzled' look that many of the older hedgies have - basically, a bit of a thicker.wirey fur instead of the soft finer hair of a younger hedgie.

Re:eyebrows - 2007/09/13 17:17 I don't have a digital camera, I will have to take some 35mm shots of how bushy his eyebrows looked today and have them developed. His previous owner recalls getting him four years ago in October (2003) as a baby from a pet store in NH so we estimate his birth month to be probably August - so I'm pretty confident as to the accuracy of his age.

He really is a sweet guy, and is totally different than P-k when it comes to being neat and tidy... that is why we call him Colonel Maxfield, gentleman hedgehog because he poops on the cloth I have at the base of his wheel before he gets on his so he doesn't have to run through it.

I'll try and post this, I tried to put it through shrinkpictures but I can't find what folder it ended up in. If it doesn't appear, I'll have to reshrink it and repost it. Anyways, most photos of Max it looks like there is always something in his eyes, maybe he has cataracts - I have personally witnessed his poor vision.

Re:eyebrows - 2007/09/14 11:22 He took right to a water dish so I did both for a couple of days and then discontinued the bottle. Thank you for the wonderful compliments on my sweet gentleman, despite the health problems he came with he is doing very well. I have never regretted taking this rehome, he has brought a peaceful charm into my house. I recently emailed a person who is very respected in the hedgehog community with a question and was given some additional insight: his making it to four is a good sign for tumors usually will appear before now and there is a good possibility Max may live another another couple of years rather than the year I was hoping for.

now, back to the original question, does anyone else have hedgies with bristly eyebrows (found a photo that shows one eyebrow)
