snipped quills - 2008/01/22 14:53 Some stupid human accidentally snipped a couple quills while trimming her hedgie's nails. Now hedge girl has some stumpy quills... Stupid human was concentrating so hard on not snipping toes, quick, or tongue (she licks the snippers) and failed to see that a couple quills moved into snipping range when Miss Hufflepuff huff-puffed.

They're going to stay like that aren't they?

Or will she somehow sense that her quills are compromised, drop them, and grow new ones (optimism, optimism)?

Re:snipped quills - 2008/01/22 15:52 I dunno about that one, Quentin has some "split ends" where the very tips of a few quills broke off and they just seem to stay that way. Jessica

Re:snipped quills - 2008/01/22 20:03 Dont feel bad about it. It was an accident. Just like people lose a few strands of hair now and again, a hedgie will do the same thing. So most likely they will eventually be replace by a full quill Julie Pierce

Re:snipped quills - 2008/01/23 03:41 Yeah, I guess Quent loses a few quills every once in a while too, even big ones. I never saw a really big one come out when he was younger and quilling, but I did pull a decent sized one out of my toe this past winter break. Jessica

Re:snipped quills - 2008/01/24 00:53 Please tell said "stupid human" to stop beating herself up over it. A quill is just a modified hair follicle, so no harm done. It will take awhile, but as Julie explained, quills to fall out and replace themselves.

Hey, at least the "stupid human" didn't take off a toe! Don't worry, you'll do better in the future.

Re:snipped quills - 2008/01/24 08:00 Stupid human would be absolutely beside herself if she clipped off a toe!

Satin seems none the worse for wear. I just felt bad snipping the ends of a few beautiful quills. I suppose I could look at this as an accidental experiment of sorts... figuring out how long individual quills stay attached to hedgies.
