Light Bulb? - 2007/07/19 07:07 HI! I don't know if this is the right forum spot for this question but here goes...

I heard there was a color light bulb you could use to light up your hedgies cage at night without bothering him. I don't remember where I read this, Anybody know anything about this?

I only ask because my hedgehog Kenobi spends most of the daytime sleeping but at night I can hear him going crazy knocking over his food bowl, running on the wheel, throwing his toys all over the place and basically being a little party animal . I can sit right next to his cage and listen without it bothering him but if I turn on the light he runs and hides. If I could put on a little light, I could watch him in action!

Re:Light Bulb? - 2007/07/19 07:48 I think some people use the infra red lights but I thought I read something that this was not a good light to use for hedgies (at least in excess) because of skin cancer. Julie Pierce

Re:Light Bulb? - 2007/07/19 08:23 Pippi liked the red heat bulb, but I don't think using a bulb is going to help you get to see them. Both Pippi and P-k stopped running on the wheel the minute they sensed I had entered the room. Eventually I could lay on the couch on the other side of the mid-wall and they'd eventually I could hear them resume their activities. But the minute I sat up, even from across the room they'd stop. They're cute and sneaky that way...

Re:Light Bulb? - 2007/07/19 09:18 Hmm........

Kenobi doesn't seem to mind that I sit next to his cage. Sometimes he comes out in the daytime for a snack and he won't pay me any mind. Maybe its because I study and use the laptop on the same table his cage is on. I get the feeling its just the light that bothers his eyes.

I'll have to try those red light bulbs. I won't be keeping them on all night or anything, just while I watch the little guy.

Thanks for the suggestions

Re:Light Bulb? - 2007/07/19 12:21 There are regular incandescent bulbs in colors that you can get at walmart, etc. Mainly for decoration but they may work for this cause they do not throw off a lot of light. We had plain ones, stained glass, smileys, etc.. Ann

Re:Light Bulb? - 2007/07/19 13:56 I use red light bulbs. You can get them at walmart in the light bulb section. I had a problem with Digit where she would not come out unless it was dark. After I got the red lights she comes out and they do not seem ot bother her. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=106956777
