heating products - 2007/07/31 18:31 My hedgehog isn't due home for a couple of weeks and I know that it's going to be several months before it gets cold.

That being said, I am a tad bit anal and want to cover all of my bases before I have to cross them. Therefore, I have been researching some heating options for the winter. We are going to put our girl in the office when she comes home because we spend a lot of time in there and it is the warmest room in the apartment but I would like to be on the safe side especially since I live in Central New York where temps of -23 are not unheard of.

I've heard that heat lamps get too hot so it is a good option to use a heating pad or other product under one corner of the cage. Please let me know what you guys think of the following two items or if you have any other suggestions that may be better:

Re:heating products - 2007/08/01 06:15 The snuggle safe disks are really good for travel and vet visits. Not so good for at home because you have to remember to heat them up a couple of times a day and you have to be there to heat them up.

Not sure about the ferret pad but it does look sturdy and easy to clean Ann

Re:heating products - 2007/08/03 18:59 Couldn't there be a problem though with the electrical cords for the one with ferrets? I am going to do something similar for my hedgies when it gets colder. At first we were going to have them in our bedroom in the apartment which is the warmest area, but I couldn't fit their home 'Pog Tower' through the doorway, so I am looking for other options

Re:heating products - 2007/08/29 21:15 just bumping this post...would the ferret pad be safe for putting under plastic do you think? its coating IS made of hard plastic, so i'm assuming it would be fine...

Re:heating products - 2007/08/29 21:46 I don't know... I ended up getting a snuggle safe disk in the discount bin at Petsmart for an insanely marked down price of $15.

I plan on getting something more permanent soon like a pad but I'm still on the fence about which way I want to go. I'm guessing that the pad is designed to go under cages as it is a ferret pad? Don't know...

(on the cord question someone asked earlier... it says the cord is chew proof?) Ava's mom!

actually, you need to buy a cover for the cord, and THEN its chew proof...
