If you want to give your hedgie treats that are specifically designed for hedgehogs, I have found some at Brisky's site - they have SPECIAL yogurt drops and roasted waxworms that hedgies really love. They also have something called Peanut Bugger that is a special dried peanut that is crushed and to be sprinkled on food - none of my hedgie were impressed with that. I think it's www.brisky.com, I recommend you do a google search if that is wrong.
I have also heard that hedgies are lactose intolerant so I avoid giving them any kind of dairy treat (I do hear that a little plain yogurt is okay - someone will correct me if I am mistaken).
Hedgies are insectivores and so for treats, other than watermelon, I give them live and dried mealworms, roasted waxworms, CANNED CRICKETS (I gave up on live ones, they got big and made noise and drove me nuts!). Dried crickets got a big thumbs down, so did canned worms and canned catepillars. I try to give my hedgies treats they are really meant to have - go to a pet store and buy a small tub of mealworms and they will love you for them! It sounds creepy and I swore I would never deal with any kind of bug but when you see how happy they are to have them you will quickly get over any phobia.
Agreed on everything. I've also heard a little bit of cottage cheese is ok too. Also a good treat is scrambled (without any butters or oils) or boiled egg. My hedgie wasn't too enthusiastic about the egg as his usual race to the mealworms, but once I scooted him over to it and hovered him over the egg pieces he munched it up halfheartedly.
