Is the ball okay? - 2007/08/06 21:36I just bought Flower a SuperPet Giant Run Around Ball and a hamtrack for her to run around in during playtime. I dont plan on using it until shes more comfortable in my home (just got her yesterday)...but im worried about her legs getting stuck in the slits on the ball. I know other people have used them...but i would like to hear opinions...or if you find the ball to be successful or harmful...thanks!

Re:Is the ball okay? - 2007/08/07 01:59Balls are just fine. Make sure you have the guinea pig size ball and not the hamster size.

Re:Is the ball okay? - 2007/08/07 16:51Just to keep in mind, the POOP AND PEE like crazy when they are running in the ball so keep them on an easily cleaned surface and also be prepared for some nasty clean up after playtime.Julie Pierce Pierce's Pogs http://www.piercespogs.com

That is definitely true...one of my hedgies who NEVER goes to the bathroom out of his cage goes ALL OVER in his ball! I decided it's just too much of a pain & a mess to deal with, so I don't use them any more.Emily Prickles N' Quills Hedgehogs Breeding for Excellent Health, Personality & Color Charlotte, NC www.pricklesnquills.webs.com www.remembermethemovie.webs.com

Re:Is the ball okay? - 2007/08/08 06:31I don't know how big the giant one is, I saw one at the pet store and it was supersize for ferrets - way too big for a hedgie. Guinea pig size sounds good, when I had Rambo he LOVED the critter ball. Pippi didn't like them, P-k likes them in the morning after bath but not in the evening and I don't know about Max. I was thinking, after quarantine is over, I might put P-k and Max into their respective critter balls and take them out into the screenhouse - that way I can be with both hedgies at once but not have the male and female together.

Re:Is the ball okay? - 2007/08/08 07:33My breeder told me to use the ball that has the hedgehog on the package. It's the perfect size, I found it at Meijer.
Quentin is so anti-light though that he usually will just sit in it and either curl up and not move or try and run under things too low for the ball to fit and get confused.Jessica Des Plaines, IL

I'm not sure which one has the hedgehog on it, I will have to look at the store.
While they can manipulate the largest szie, I would recommend against it just because it's bulkier and hard to get around.

Here it is, the Giant Kritter Krawler:
Also, sadly while stumbling around for a picture of it I found out that Numo the hedgehog has passed on. If anyone else has stumbled upon the wonder's of Numo's Hedgehog blog in the past this is shockingly sad news.Jessica Des Plaines, IL

Re:Is the ball okay? - 2007/08/22 07:24I just bought a new Kritter Krawler, the one that has the rat and hedgehog on one side of the box and a guinea pig and chinchilla on the other side of the box.
The size on the box says JUMBO - got it home and compared it to my others and it looked so much smaller... my trusty tape measure says 9-1/2 inch diameter
the box says ALSO AVAILABLE in 5" dwarf, 7" standard, and 12.5 inch giant
when I went to pet groomer, I asked about critter balls. He showed me this HUGE ONE that was must have been for ferrets - it was the size of a beachball, it seemed bigger than the 12.5 inch described. I asked him to order me the next size down, he did.
I am really surprised the jumbo is 9-1/2 inches, I've measured my other critter balls and they are around 11-1/2 inches, it must be another brand (I had gotten it for Rambo from the local pet store). That's a whole two inch difference.
I know there has been discussion about not using 9 inch wheels for hedgehogs, minimum 11 inches preferably 12. I'm guessing this applies to critter balls too.
Haven't taken it out of the package, I know the 9-1/2 is just too small for PK who is hefty. Should I NOT use this size for any adult hedgehog?
