Re:Swimming - 2007/08/11 17:00 I don't know about how long hedgies can swim for but they definitely can swim. At least Pepper can! We bath him in the tub so one end of the tub definitely has an inch or so more water and when he's in the "deep end" he can swim. We found if the waters too shallow he kind of just sits there and wants out the entire time, but when its a bit deeper he's perfectly content to paddle around. By no means is the water too deep, but it's more than 2 inchs. He can always rest on the shallow end where he can touch easily. It's actually cute to see him so happy at it and apparently it's good exercise.

Re:Swimming - 2007/08/11 23:17 yes they can remember if an animal can swim in 2 inches it can swim in 2 feet although I would never leave a hedgehog alone in any level of water but Addie likes to swim in a full bathtub (which is at least 2feet deep) Dani Marshall Kansas

Re:Swimming - 2007/08/12 08:14 Yep! I have a number that LOVE to swim. Then there are those hedgies who would rather stay completely dry....Those, I tend to bathe in the sink while I'm holding them, that way they have some assurance that the scary water isn't going to eat them. Stasi

Re:Swimming - 2007/08/12 09:25 thank you - I would never leave them alone in a tub of water deeper than their bellies but I always wondered if they could actually swim. About the scary water, isn't how funny how frantic they can get during their nail soak when they have the whole tub to run around in, surefooted while splashing in less than an inch of water?

Re:Swimming - 2007/08/12 13:32 I think its their boat shaped bodies that help them swim, the legs are just the rotors. Jessica

Re:Swimming - 2007/08/12 15:06 This video makes me laugh so hard....I doubt Pepper would willingly jump in if given the option though....

I like the specialist on hedgehogs. With baths only two times a year he must have some stinky hogs. Also I don't think its bad at all to have water deeper than 2 inchs as long as he has a landing to come back to and is supervised. They should put a little ramp on the box so he can get back up on it. If the hedgie can swim its no different to be 2 inches deep or 8 as long as hes supervised and his feet don't touch the bottom.
