wheelies - 2007/08/12 17:03 just out of curiousity, on the quality cage wheels website

http://www.qualitycage.com/exwheels.html

why wouldnt the flying sauceer wheel thing on top be good for hedgies? it looks cool, and i'm really more curious than considering getting it. Is there too much of a chance of hedgies falling off?

Re:wheelies - 2007/08/14 18:18 I don't think that hedgehogs would be able to move the saucer quite like the chins do. Chins run really fast, hedgies sorta hobble along on their wheels and might get cofused as to the saucers purpose. Jessica

I looked at the page, but didn't see anywhere where they say it won't work for hedgehogs. I don't know if it will, maybe you could email them and ask?

Re:wheelies - 2007/10/10 17:05 I wrote them with other questions but I made sure to ask about the Saucer as well. They told me that they can be used with hedgehogs and people have bought them for that. Unfortunately I cannot find any reviews or anything from people who have actually tried it out. They do look fun... I'm just not sure I'd be willing to shell out $70 for an experiment. Check out Ham's Blog !

Re:wheelies - 2007/10/10 18:48 those wood-lined buckets look like the ones I saw on the Exclusively hedgehogs site. don't know if that is wood veneer or contact paper, doesn't catch my attention.

The testimony stated by Jennifer Plombon, I recognize that name, she's one of the key people at HWS and their yahoo group. If you wanted to talk to someone before you plunk down $70, you have the name of a real person to research through.

Chet is still making wheels, www.hogwheelsbychet.com and they have pretty sturdy bases. If our duct tape idea doesn't solve the slipping problem, he has told me he can make a seven inch deep bucket which may keep Max from sliding out. He seems really accommodating.

Re:wheelies - 2007/10/10 21:37 The flying saucer thing is pretty cool and it would be kind of funny to see them running on it. But its really expensive and takes up a huge area of the cage with the mounting and the then the saucer part so to consider it you would need a really large area (maybe a custom C&C cage)? Re:wheelies - 2007/10/12 19:35 I have heard of people using these wheels for hedgehogs and liking them. They just seem really expensive to me.

We do make hedgehog wheels, too, out of colorful buckets. Those are tried and true, and much less expensive!

Re:wheelies - 2007/10/12 21:55 Wouldn't using wood on a wheel be a really bad idea for hedgehogs? Wouldn't you need to replace the wood to frequently? Check out Ham's Blog !

Re:wheelies - 2007/10/13 12:00 That's what I always thought- wood not being good because it will soak up urine and be hard to clean anyway, and the metal I could see eventually rusting. But as said before, many people have had success and liked these. *~*Steph*~*

Re:wheelies - 2007/10/13 13:10 I think the metal is safe because it is covered with a "silver vein" finish, so I don't think it rusts or degrades in nearly the same way as metal. Also, the wheel that does use wood is made specifically for chinchillas so I guess it's just not appropriate for hedgehogs. It's a shame because I really like the open side that it has.
