Crickets? - 2007/08/12 21:21 I am going to be getting my hedgie soon, and I got some freeze dried crickets. And my question is how often should I give him a cricket, and how many? And should he have less since he will be a little guy. He will be 10 weeks old when I get him. http://www.freewebs.com/wicket61807/index.htm

Re:Crickets? - 2007/08/12 21:34 When I used to feed digit crickets I would give her 2-3 a night. The pet store I went to charged 10 cents for each cricket so I eventually switched over to mealworms, which I can get 50 for 1.99. This just worked out cheaper for me. I still will get crickets sometimesas a special treat. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=106956777

Re:Crickets? - 2007/08/12 21:43 don't waste your money on freeze dried crickets - they have the consistency and probably the taste of carefresh. None of my hedgies liked them. Canned crickets are tasty, and an extra special treat for they are like Canoli's (no wonder P-k was a fatty when she arrived for her owner had been giving her three 'canoli's' a night!). I did live crickets for awhile with Pippi, she did like them but when they started getting big in the keeper and making noise it drove me nuts! If you can't do live, go with canned. If you'd like a sample of freeze dried crickets, I'd be glad to send you some so you can find out if your hedgie will like them.

Re:Crickets? - 2007/08/12 23:23 I already got some freeze dried crickets. I'll try them with wicket when he comes and see if he likes them. If he doesn't then I'll try mealworms or canned crickets. Thanks for letting me know! http://www.freewebs.com/wicket61807/index.htm

Re:Crickets? - 2007/08/13 00:10 Canned crickets were a big hit here!

We gave Ava one as a little "bribe" the first night she came home and she ate it right up

Re:Crickets? - 2007/08/13 01:10 PetCo here in Lessburg (DO NOT GO TO HERNDON PETCO! *shudders*) sell "Karry-out Krickets"... which are alive and kicking. Once or twice a week, Schöndorn can find that I placed 4 of them into the shower with him at night. Usually he will hunt them down in under 4 minutes.

Dried ones he will take as well, greedy as he is, but only one and then he decides he had his fill.
