Re:Upside down litter box - 2007/08/13 13:42 Not all hedgehogs automatically use a litter box. You will need to teach her. She may never use a litter box...it all depends on the hedgehog.

Also, I wouldn't recommend using cat litter in the litter box. Try yesterday's news or aspen shavings.

I am also new and I am trying to figure out what to line the cage with and what to have in order to litterbox train my hedgehog... I would like to make him comfortable. Do I need a large cage as well, I only have one hedgie..

Thank you,
Sonic

I think a decent sized cage is good for a hedgie. Initially I used two 90qt rubbermaid containers connected with a PVC pipe. This worked well. Just make sure that your cage has enough room for a wheel, food, water, and a place to hide.

I go to the pet store and I feel as if i would go insane... I think that the one I have is too big so I will find a smaller one...

There is no cage that is really too big for a hedgie! I now have upgraded to a cage that is 43'' by 43''. It just gives my hedgie room to run around besides her wheel.

Re:Upside down litter box - 2007/12/28 10:43 saabgirl9000,

I think that I may have misunderstood information that I have been reading. Really, I should line the cage with cloth and then have a litterbox with carefreash for potty.. Correct?

This just works for me. I think that my hedgie likes to keep her blanket clean and only goess to the bathroom in her litter box. You should do whatver works for you.
