I couldn't find the discs anywhere around me, even at petsmart and petco. I had to order mine online .

Re:heating pads...yes, again! - 2007/10/05 12:04 A lot of places have them online for between 25-35 dollars or so before shipping. Search Snuggle safe disc. They are usually under dog or cat arthritis products. Ann

Re:heating pads...yes, again! - 2007/10/07 10:37 i have a marchioro cage that's raised off the wooden table by several inches (i used big bricks). So, there's definitely a lot of space for ventilation! nevertheless, when i was testing out the pad, it got into the 90s right above it in just an hour and half! and the packaging says that it takes a full 6 hours for it to reach its maximum temperature. But i think i have a temporary solution: I've put a shirt directly over where the heater is, and then a layer of bedding. The shirt is held down by the igloo, so magellan probably cant bury underneath it. If he really wants to bury, i have 2 more shirts on top of the bedding in the igloo! hopefully, that shoudl keep him safe =)

and yes, it does come with the spacer feet, but since my cage is already so high, i figured i didnt need to use them.

but so far, its been ridiculously hot. I live in new Jersey, and its been like high 80s in OCTOBER!!!!

It has been freakishly hot for this time of year. Some of the hedgies have the hardest time when the temps swing back and forth so drastically Ann

Re:heating pads...yes, again! - 2007/10/07 17:11 Dr Fosters always has them in stock.

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=3487

If you hit it right you can find them on ebay, amazon, or some of the smaller distributors cheaper.

Re:heating pads...yes, again! - 2007/10/08 19:31 I'm going to try and find a couple of those snuggle disks. We use a human heating pad in Pepper's cage (under the coroplast of his cavy cage) but we use a smaller (guinea pig) cage when we travel, so the snuggle disks would be good for then...we live in Canada so heat is quite necessary but taking a whole heating pad everywhere gets annoying! Thanks for the idea!

Re:heating pads...yes, again! - 2007/10/09 16:05 I use a snuggle safe disc with Hector but, seeing as my microwave blew up yesterday, it's not much use at the moment.
I ordered a cat/dog heating mat a couple of weeks ago because the temperature in Scotland is really starting to drop and I was having to continually heat the disc and it really doesn't hold the heat for as long as they say.
I'm still waiting for the heat mat because there has been loads of *^$@#+ postal strikes in the uk at the moment, so who knows when it will arrive!
I've had to resort to an electric blanket for a double bed that has a continuous low heat setting. So I have the blanket on my bedroom floor with part of Hector's cage sitting on the corner!

By the way (completely off topic - sorry), but does anyone know why I can't get the emoticons to work? I've tried clicking on them but get nothing.

It is probably whatever browser you use-Internet explorer. mozilla, etc. They are working for me so there is probably some setting that is preventing it from working right.

Re:heating pads...yes, again! - 2007/10/09 19:10 If it's not allowing you to click on them to insert them just type a word from the following between two colons :: without any spaces.

blink, blush, cheer, huh, dry, sick, kiss, pinch, angry, silly, lol, laugh, woohoo, whistle, evil, unsure, ohmy

Simply typing : ) with no spaces will also give you a smiley. Or try : P or B ) or ; ) of course without spaces between the two characters.
